Allow me to clear up the uncertainty ref the non-matching colors.
I use an iPhone to shoot all of my coins. Whether I use diffused or axial lighting the coin appears darker under a slab.
The only way around that is to request a service like 'True View' from PCGS, for example. Then you one can see it on-line photographed directly by PCGS...
Insofar as the seemingly unmatched obv. and rev. colors, one side has a higher degree of yellowish toning that failed to materialize on my photos.
I've made the decision to submit this to PCGS with a variety check & 'true view' only because of its potenial value.
Also with this 'true view', I wanted to thank the CCF members who are still perplexed with this coin's colors which could adversely affect an accurate grading opinion.
While you are there, please opine on the possible RPD:
looks cleaned to me too. when silver tones naturally over 170 years it generally does not become shiny and reflective like you see on this coin. good luck on your submisssion.

Again, I think this is another picture problem. The contrast in those photos make it nearly impossible to tell what coin really looks like. With photos like these all we can do is guess.
Why did not PCGS slab and detail the coin as cleaned? Just to remind all, the coin was sent to them in an ANACS slab as EF-45.
Why do some cleaned coins get a slab with details and others not?
I am going to ask the next question to both forums: grading and variety:
If one sends in a coin for grading with a prepaid variety attribution request, could not have PCGS at least given it a no warranty variety number (if applicable) via a letter?
Since I paid for the attribution and received no refund for that part, a letter with no guarantee would at least give me some degree of confidence to send it out to another TPG for a slab/cleaned detail and a variety # if so determined.

I think the reason why it came back as ungradable is that if the cleaning goes past the point where they feel the coin warrants a grade, which means it is marketable at a certain price level, that they cannot assign a grade to it with a details designation. for whatever reason they determined that this coin fell into that category
