I usually tell them not to much somebody else must have beat me to it. Or I tell them maybe a buck or two but mostly trash.

I don't get caught I run like the wind. No just kidding. I don't put myself in that position. Not worth the hassle at my age.

Well....
I can run very fast in short spurts ! Ha Ha

Yeah, I know.....but I know of SO MANY historical spots to check....
But I don't mean in the sense of "Registered Historically protected" places...(although I do know of many of those to sneak on too)
I'm talking about places like old rock school houses deserted for over a century, and churches, and old pioneer homes, cemetaries, Indian battlesites, campgrounds from Native Americans, etc. etc.....almost ALL on private property....out in the sticks on rock roads in a field or wooded areas usually.
My curiosity is killing me to "risk it" and have the farmer or landowner come along and see me there......call the county sheriff or something....dunno.
Not sure exactly what "hassles" I might find !

"What do you tell spectators?"
response: "I'm a bomb tecnician: if you see me running, please try to keep up."
ought to get you some solitude.

(cow pies could translate as "land mines" so one would not be untruthful ! )

........DO NOT TRESPASS..............IT IS NOT WORTH THE HASSLE.............KNOCK ON DOORS.........GO TO THE COUNTY COURT HOUSE OR THE COUNTY TAX COLLECTOR AND FIND OUT WHO OWNS THE LAND AND ASK the landowner for PERMISSION...............You can only get one of 2 answers...........if you get turned down...........keep asking .........sooner or later .........you will get permission...............Like some boys in High School wanting to go on their first date .........gets turned down a lot........keep on asking............sooner or later........they will find a girl who will say Yes! (But that is another story!)...............JOE

I once told some kids (I was at a rural playground park) that I was snake hunting. At another park some lady asked me if I was a government worker looking for something.

Why not lie?

Here's a good tip: Instead of just asking to dig holes in someones yard, i'll offer to mow their lawn, rake their leaves, shovel the driveway, etc., in exchange for detecting the property. Most of the time they allow me to detect but never actually take me up on the work. This is also how I get permission to deer hunt these properties. In this day and age you can't expect to get something for nothing.

If someone is genuinely interested in what I'm doing, I'll pull out the silver, IH's, jewelry etc, let them take a gander...I'm not concerned with them coming back to hunt my spots as these places usually have been pounded to death. I'm digging the goodies that have been walked over by detectorists for the last 50 years. What, me worry?
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors...
Roll hunting since '77
Dirt fishing since '72

People who trespass make it that much harder for the rest of us. This hobby has a fragile reputation, & anybody who jeopardises that is no friend of mine... On a lighter note, if I'm being followed around by kids, especially on the beach where they can do little harm, I get the kids to take turns digging my targets, tell them they can keep all the coins newer than 1964 that they dig up! Works all the time & saves my back! ;-))
