Affectionaly known as "Smithy" this was issued in honour of Sir Kingsford Smith..the pioneer of Australian Aviation. Mintage of 20,000 with the small head and interrupted reeding was strucked in 1997. BV for this issue is AUD$65.00.

Another 4,000 Silver Proof with the Big Head and continous reeding was minted for a joint issue between the RAM and NPA (Note Printing Australia). This is one dollar coin that is missing in many dollar collections.

1996 The Henry Parkes Centenary was issued...actual mintage is not know. COA mentions a mintage of no more than 20,000. BV of this silver coin is AUD$60.00, but I have seen it sell for less on ebay.

What is truly amazing is the number of decimal dollar collectors around that claim they have complete dollar collections. To me no circulating dollar collection is complete without this coin.

So how undervalued is this coin? If there are NONE on the market that can play into value as well! Seems to me if they are offered up for sale now and then that tends to drive prices but when a coin absolutely disappears into the hands of private collectors where they are basically GONE they then become "out of sight, out of mind" and the prices can remain stagnant as the world loses interest pretty quickly when NONE is available! Hope you see my point. If there was never really a big fight to get one of these coins then the market would remain non-existant in a sense? None the less, what is this limited issue worth today and do they ever really come on the market! Any coin with such a low mintage should be represented in the U.S (Indiana)!
Lim18 you should go to Downies.com and do a Liberia search for the 50mm "tiffany glass" coin. Just look at that and tell me what you think. Absolutely beautiful, but not really a coin? But, with an issue of 999 world wide it is going to be very scarce in the future but will it have a demand? Yes, I bought one!

IMHO, this portfolio should be in the $AUD400 - AUD$500 class. I think it is a real sleeper just waiting for collectors to realise it's existence.

I am aware of those Tiffany glass type coins as I buy a fair bit from Downies and also take part in their in house auctions (eBid).....

i think NPA not making any more folders has killed the market a little bit but the silver dollar coin with a mintage of 4000 should be worth 5 times what the other kingsfordsmith silver proof is worth ($70) and that is not even counting the $20 dollar note , so lim is about spot on with his assesment

Touche....PNC_King...

Not only is the coin unique but the banknote as well. The notes with the overprint are specially printed by NPA for inclusion into this portflio.

book value on that prefix note os around 80 dollars but the overprint has to be worth at least another 50 , so the note is around$ 130 and the coin around 300 dollars plus so your assesment of 400 to 500 dollars lim is very valid and accurate in my opinion anyway
