Actually, I think that is the message this note is supposed to convey. The nuclear symbol has been placed alongside other "harmless" symbols of science. Look to the right of the atomic symbol, and you'll see a stylised diagram of the solar system. There's also a large "N" beneath that; I can only assume it's the chemical element symbol for nitrogen. So I would say the "message" the Iranian government (through this note) is intending to send is, "Nuclear science is just like any other science, and we have the right to pursue it". That has been their claim all along. The fact that pursuing nuclear science just might grant them the ability to vaporize entire "Satanic" cities would merely be a bonus. Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

Wait, no, I get it. The large "N" is simply the last letter of "IRAN", written large through the design.  But I think my argument still holds. Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

My joking aside, I tend to think that Iran is a bit more level-headed than their dramatic public overtures; it's mostly a show to distinguish themselves amongst their peers--imo. But, once they "join the club", they might have a new, complex game to play.
Anyway, there's some interesting context with that note, and that's what makes collecting fun!

I can't help but to wonder if it's real- sort of like these "iranian weapons" that are "found" in Iraq- with English writing on them. Much like the media propaganda show before 9/11 to prepare the masses for corporate robbery, I can only wonder why they would use a foreign language on their money? Wouldn't they use their own language?
Iran never threatened the "jews"- only zionists, BIG difference. They fought on US/Military Industrial Complex side against Sunnis in the Afghan Poppy Field War, and have been under Al-Quada ( CIA group formed under Carter ) attack since right before 9/11. CIAgents have been attacking markets, dams, power plants, same deal as Iraq under Clinton just no air strikes.
I would tell anyone who resides in The North American Union, ( former United States ) to think twice about any corporate media report- these are the same bankers who after all- killed Kennedy for a silver backed dollar with no interest paid to bankSTERS.
Let us not forget that the #1 show in Iran is Baywatch, you can't get much more wanting western values with that show...

Many countries in the world, including most Arabic ones, have at least one side of their banknotes in an "international language" for the benefit of tourists and collectors. For some countries, this is English. For others, it's French. To a large extent which one they use depends on former colonial influences. British and American influences in Iran were historically stronger than French ones. Grab a Pick banknote catalogue or go to banknotes.com and look up Iran. Every single banknote issued by this country (except for a couple of emergency issues) has had a Persian front and an English back. You'll also see that the Islamic Republic often uses it's banknotes for propaganda purposes. For instance, the 1000 rial note shows the Dome of the Rock in Jerusalem, while the older 2000 rials shows the Kaaba in Mecca. So 50,000 rial is what, at 9,300 some to $1 dollar? About $5? The Iranian government does scare me, as does the U.S. government at present. I love my USA, but I sure want the current administration out and over. I don't think we need to go to war with Iran now or in the immediate future, but we do need to continue dialogue with them and let them know they need to leave Israel alone. Maybe Iran has nukes, maybe not, but I know Israel has them, and they aren't about to let Iran destroy them. I don't want any more preemptive strikes, either. Isn't that was the Japanese did at Pearl Harbor? I don't want that bank note, nor anything to do with the current gov. in Iran. I don't hate the people of Iran. Some of them I really like a lot, but I sure have a problem with their gov., and I have some problems with ours also. We just need to stay cool, people. Good posts, by the way, eaglefoot, and interesting discussion.

It's a shame, because there are some very interesting places that people now avoid.
Some family were in Syria last year, and despite what you might think about the govt., they really liked the people there...very friendly and hospitable.

The Purpose of this thread was to discuss this banknote.

This forum is not a political pontificating forum.....it's a coin forum.....and I should keep that in mind and also realize that it is world wide....not just a "U.S." forum. Many many countries are represented here and I would not want to insult any good people from any other country......instead, rather, recognize the commonality of "coins" as a universal hobby for every creed, color, and nationality to enjoy and discuss right here !..  So, having said that though.......these banknotes are interesting and I'd like for anyone to post up any of theirs from other Middle East countries. Kurt....your family visited Syria ?.....Cool..!...But did they bring back any money for you ?.....And if so, can you post up some pics ?..  ....coins or banknotes from there would be cool !..

I think they have a stash of travel coins, which my nephew enjoys playing with.
In regards to Syria, I think the locals were more than happy to take US dollars at the time--their guide handled currency conversion, and probably did very well!
And, I apologize if I inflamed the discussion further--a few jokes can lead down the wrong path if unchecked. It's important to consider that collectors from the M.East frequent our forums--and have no more to do with terrorism than you or I.
