It appears to be slightly under-graded by todays standards but not worth the cost to get it into modern plastic. I'm a fan of the first generation rattler holders and would never consider cracking a coin out, especially a Morgan. Enjoy it as is, it's a wonderful piece of numismatic history.

I would think 63-64 and as moxking mentioned : not worth the expense of getting it re-graded!

Yeah I agree. Keep it in the rattler. You rarely see those at auctions anymore.

This is the 2nd rattler, the 1st used a 9-pin dot matrix printer and you can tell that pretty easily especially if you grew up with cheapo 9-pin printers in the 80s.

MS-64, not worth the cost to re-slab.

very nice Student. I would say mine looks as good if not a tad better than yours. Both reverses look great and my obverse I think looks a tad better. I really think my coin would grade MS 65 if I sent to NGC

No. 64 max at PCGS or NGC. The Morgan dollar posted by numismatic student is definitely a higher-grade example than yours. At NGC or PCGS today yours would get a 63 or 64.

So was this graded in the 80's you think? Early 80's?

Looks like a 1986 slab. If the label is green then 1986-1989.

I think it's all good. They are within a grade of what you have on the slab. Unless that means a major value change, just enjoy the 'antique' holder. Unless they is being counterfeited, too.
