to CCF. If that turns out to be genuine, it is very nice. John1

Not an expert on Alexander tets (I own one posthumous issue) but they usually have more curvature on the edges. The coin looks "Great" ! But the edges seem too square to me. I try to stay away from silver like this as I am too easily fooled by great beauty ........ and this one has it ! Any provenance on the coin ? Knowing from whence it came can be important.

Thanks for the weight and size, although this is more like 20 questions and we are on a need to know basis with a new member. You never said if you own the coin but if you do send it off and if NGC deems it authentic you are set forever and if not that is best for everyone. So if you own it, spend the $40 and you will more than get it back on a sale someday. Site below and let us know how it turned out. And if you don't own it, you must know something of the pedigree of who is selling it. You could let us know you are looking at an auction house in Europe or a guy out of the back of his van. Good luck sir. https://www.NGCcoin.com/specialty-s...cient-coins/

Yes I own the coin, but I'm new to this and learning. Not sure yet if I will collect and keep, or just buy and sell, but I think this is very exciting. I will concider using NGC, that's a very good tip, thank you for your help louisvilleshop :)

I bet it is real but the beauty of the NGC slab is it closes the case (pun intended) forever and protects the investment. Even if they make a mistake, which as humans they could, the point will be mute for your concerns.

Many of us here spend the extra time to crack open NGC slabs to take actual possession of ancient coins. I often hear it refered to as freeing them from the tomb. I have never had a coin slabbed nor do I really care too. I may make an exception for two tiny bronzes I recently acquired but only because their minuscule size alarms me ! (everytime I hear the wife's vacuum cleaner !)
Always read the fine print too ! NGC only states that they "believe" the coin is real. If it turns out later to be a dud they take no position.
"NGC Ancients is committed to grading only genuine coins, but it does not guarantee authenticity, genuineness or attribution, nor is any guarantee of these aspects implied. NGC Ancients will only holder coins it considers genuine at the time of submission, but it cannot guarantee the authenticity, genuineness, type, attribution or date of any coin it holders."
One alternative I have considered in the past is David Sear. He is getting a bit aged but he does offer "certification" services and does not entomb anything. You get his certification accompanied by photos with detailed information. And ......... He actually wrote "the book" on ancients !

Are the weight and size correct ? Is has the weight of a tetradrachm and the size of a drachm .The size of the tetradrachm has to be for this period about 27/28 mm . albert

It is the right weight for a tetradrachm but have never seen one 19mm usually they are over 26mmm-35mm but the coin does look okay with the details.

I am somewhat confused here. It is the right diameter for a drachm, but It is the right weight for a tetradrachm. Both of these (weight and diameter), should be roughly consistent with each other for one of those denominations only, authentic or not. Visually, I am a bit suspicious of the constant thickness of the flan, but that point alone should not condemn it, otherwise it looks to be OK.

Your tetradrachm looks to be Price 3325/3330 ,but the size is not correct . What is the die axis ? IMO there is also something wrong with the head of Zeus . albert

to the community From the overall appearance the coin looks genuine, but at 19mm which would indicate a drachm, the weight is way off. Are you sure about the size?

My mistake, the correct size is 28mm, dunno how I could get that wrong, sorry :) The weight should be correct though, 17 gram.
