Surely not the old rattler slab of PCGS fame is it? That looks bargain basement...

It's been cleaned and should receive a Details grade. Not surprised it straight graded as it looks like it's in a ICG slab.

I keep seeing more coins in IGC slabs and I cringe when I see high grade sld's in them. A month ago there was a beautiful Seated dollar graded 63+ by ICG up for auction. The ICG slab was an immediate disqualifier for me. It ended up selling for ms-61 money.

Quote: The ICG slab was an immediate disqualifier for me. It shouldn't be. More people are using them because their grading is pretty on par with NGC standards and its a lot cheaper with a MUCH quicker turnaround time. They also do conservation for free and the guy who does it is one of the founders of NCS the NGC conservation arm. They just don't advertise or go to every show because they don't have too. They're better than ANACS so if they isn't a disqualifer ICG shouldn't be either. I wouldn't send them 5 figure coins but three figure coins absolutely especially generic things like Morgans and Peace dollars. Come to think of it I'll probably make a post later tonight to correct a lot of the misconceptions people have of them

That would be a good read. Looking forward to it.

I have some ICG slabs. They are nice slabs although they do not carry PCGS or NGC status.
I tend to examine coins more closely when in ICG slabs, and look for bargains.

And yes, ANACS is also a disqualifier for 4 figure Seated dollars. Edit: with the exception of coins in old white soapbox holders I should say.

I consider ICG and ANACS to be equal in coin grading. They aren't as good as PCGS or NGC, but better than SEGS, PCI, or basement slabs.

This is in an ICG MS63 holder. I can't post more pics because I don't own the coin. Thanks for the confirmation that it is indeed cleaned. At best I thought those marks were from circulation which would put the coin at a 58 not a 63. Kind of sad when ICG can't even detect a cleaning properly.

These pics are essentially identical if not so. How about showing us the surfaces from different angles?

It's probably cleaned, as I stated in my earlier post. ICG isn't usually that bad at detecting cleaned coins. I think they may have messed up a bit this time. Usually they're lot better, but often they are less strict on grading than PCGS.
