I noted the scratches, then graded too high.

Leaning toward VF details, but best to wait for conservation results.

Well I soaked the coin in acetone and within a couple of minutes much of the residue was gone. Just a little left on the high spots. I think I'll soak it overnight and see what happens.

Soaked it for a couple of hours, but no more improvement. Acetone evaporates so quickly that I don't think an overnight soak is possible. Maybe in an airtight container.

Okay. Soaked it for about four hours but not much improvement.

Now that I look at the images beside each other, there is some improvement. I will try to soak it for a couple of days if I can find an airtight container.

The best container for an acetone soak is the very small jars of sliced pimentos, and they have a good sealing lid. They are about 1 1/2" tall and about 2" OD. Every Canadian coin, through nickel or silver dollars fits and you don't use up much acetone to allow a soak.

Thanks for that tip. I have never eaten or even seen a pimento in my whole life. :) I used an old pill bottle.

Pimentos are the red things that green olives are stuffed with, but they are good as one of the things in a good pasta salad.

I guess I am just not up on the good things in food. I don't think I have ever eaten an olive (or a pasta salad!).

Well, the coin has been soaking for the last two days and I don't see any visible improvement.

Here is the final result after about four days of soaking.
A little better than the previous effort and worlds better than the starting point. Reverse side is unchanged from original photo.Grading opinions again please.
