Quote: I think it would be hard to find any in circulation a year later. You could be right but we are still finding coloured quarters from 2012

Quote: You could be right but we are still finding coloured quarters from 2012 I agree, I got a 2004 poppy in my change the other day. But I think in this case the fact it is the first multi coloured coin in circulation and the significance of the date that more people are tending to hoard them.

Well I guess it pays to voice a comment, We took a Sunday drive up the north Hyw. this afternoon and I stopped at a place that puts aside special coins for me and guess what she had, yep 2 coloured 2017 quarters. also had 3 2018 loons, 2017 nickel, 1947 maple leaf nickle and some over coloured quarters.

The coloured quarter is the only one that I have not found in circulation. I will do some more roll hunting maybe next weekend. I'm sure they are out there, just a lot more made of a bunch of other years so it seems hard to come by.

I agree with JimmyD that a lot of these coins were hoarded. When I attended the coin exchange last year there were strict limits and families/groups were lining up as individuals to get more coins (then returning to the line again later on).
You can still readily buy the 2017 sets but tough to find the coloured coins in circulation.

Well it's good too know that I'm not the only one that's having a hard time finding them.

I am on the west coast and while I don't routinely search rolls, I have had very few 2017 or 2018 coins of any form or grade show up in change. Oddly enough, over the last two months, I have received a bunch of brand new MS grade loons, quarters and nickels dated 2016 recently and from a number of different vendors in the region. It looks like a bank just issued an stack of older unreleased coins.
As I understand it, banks treat rolled coins as their product for sale and since coins are not perishable unlike milk in the local grocery, there is no reason to date circulate their stock. They will go to the closest pallet in the vault when the front desk runs out of stock and that has little to do with when the pallet is received.
