Quote: the grade on that one should be ignored Personally, I believe that to be true of any entombed coin. Grading is subjective, so it's all only in our heads anyway! Real, honest TPGs, however are a great source to authenticate questionable coins. A rather good place to get an idea of some of the different TPGs that are out there is http://sampleslabs.com/. The coin your nickel came in looks like a BCW or Collector Safe brand slab holder. There are others on the market, and you simply snap it shut and can open it whenever you like.

The one in the pic is a basement slabbing company. IMO, the only "real" TPGs are PCGS, NGC, ANACS, and ICG. As for SEGS and PCI holders, it depends on the coin. Old Hallmark slabs, (not some new basement slab company trying to imitate them!) and ANA slabs similar to the old white ANACS holders are also some more reputable companies which are no longer in business. Remember, however - buy the coin, not the holder.

The title of this topic needs to be altered/changed or something. Very obviously this is not any TPG's slab.

''Bottom Feeder Slab Company'' I'm surprised they didn't grade it PF-75 . Just realized the slab says PR-70 ; PR is poor. They don't even know how to designate a coin .

Real, honest TPGs, however are a great source to authenticate questionable coins. ^^ THIS!! ^^ Yes, that is a fancy holder. Also, Top TPGs are FAIRLY reliable regarding grade, but not foolproof! At least not until a foolproof approach to grading is discovered/implemented. I trust them to authenticate more than to grade.

That's not even a basement slabbing service, That is just a coin that someone has put into a generic shell that can puchased from supply dealers. It makes no pretense of being from a grading service.

There are literally dozens and dozens of options out there to choose from. You can check out a lot of them on the WizardCoin Supply site here: https://www.wizardcoinsupply.com/pr...oin-holders/Check under the categories of "Snaplocks", "Lighthouse Slab Coin Holders", and " Coin World Premier Holders". I personally think that Lighthouse makes some of the nicest slabs, but definitely not the cheapest. There are also tons of options under the "Snaplocks". I have heard that the CoinWorld Holders are good deals for the money, but have never used them myself. I personally stick with AirTite Capsules in connection with the CAPS Coin Albums as well as Dansco albums for coins I collect in Albums. The CAPS albums are Great for putting together albums, but expensive and takes-up a LOT of space. My misc/raw coins all go in self-sealing 2x2s and into Intercept Shield Coin Boxes. And my slabbed coins also go into either Intercept Shield Coin boxes, or into Eagle Slabbed Coin Pages/Albums.. There are (fortunately and unfortunately) dozens and dozens of options and variations for storing coins. Happy hunting.. Michael

So here is your chance to start your own grading company. And you too could use any grading system you want.
