well if he sent you that message he may have stopped you himself by blocking you from ever bidding again on any of his items. I don't think I would worry about buying anything from this seller even if the BIN kept going down because if they have that kind of attitude I wouldn't want to do business with them anyway

Haven't seen this on ebay for several years. When old time dealers first started on ebay, it was though their manhood was being questioned, and many didn't understand the process. They were probably the ones some of us meet at shows that makes a real scene when you make a lesser offer on a coin. Coinbully is what he is.

That seller has no business to comment on your valuation. If nobody pays his precious reserve, then that's his problem,

G'day, I find that people like this are very difficult to deal with at every stage. They never like your mode of payment; you're never quick enough; if you ask for "combined postage", you may as well abduct his children. So, if sellers are rude or unreasonable at the early stages, I never bid. I wouldn't have wasted my time with the reply tou sent, and I wouldn't bid again.
That said, the vast majority of sellers are sensible people, who understand the process and its context.
I've never sold on the'bay, but I thought the seller's fees were minimized in a NR auction, so by having a reserve, he has to pay, even although it doesn't sell - perhaps I'm wrong about that. But I thouggh that the'bay was structured to encourage realistic sellers, and to make unrealistic ones pay for clogging up the system.

At the end of the day, it sounds like the bottom line is that this seller doesn't want to part with his coin.

I have to agree with what some others have said.

First, he had no business being angry at any bid that you placed. He started the auction at 99 cents, if you bid over that then it's legitimate.

As far as reserves are concerned, if I see a reserve is on an auction I generally stay away. I am an active buyer and seller on ebay. I never have a reserve on any of my auctions, if I have a minimum price I want for an item, I start it there. Sometimes that makes my posting fee a little more, but for me it's worth knowing that if someone bids then it will sell.

Very eloquent reply. I have gotten nasty notes, a long time ago, from other bidders on comic books. Kids with limited budgets, the water gets rough.

Comic Books is the one thing I have learned not to buy on-line. the boxes always, as in over 80% of the time, get broken open and up to 3/4s lost in shipment.

It's another by-product of our electronic age. No one would dare do this in a face-to-face transaction ... at least not when I was in the retail field many moons ago. The electrons have made it very impersonal and harder for offenders to suffer from their transgressions. Blow someone off and there are millions behind them waiting to take their place ... all with no knowledge of what just transpired. Your only remedy is to vent here and on other coin forums to out this dirtbag. If I knew who the seller was, I would join the boycott.

Due to popular demand...

eBay ID: nicbids

aka: Nick's Coins and Collectibles
Warren, Michigan

The coin in question is an 1868 Shield nickel.
It's a nice coin without a doubt. I wouldn't have
watched it so long and put bids on it otherwise.
The seller grades it as "MS-63".
I am undecided on the "MS" part...
However the "63" is bunk. If it is MS, the strike
is WAY too weak for a 63! Check this thread in
the grading forum for LOTS of close up pics:
https://goccf.com/t/34091

The auction, or at least the latest of several:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...0705948&rd=1

The seller is getting the $200 value from the
idea that the coin is MS63. I concour with most
on the grading forum that it is an XF range coin.
This puts the book value at around $60.
SURPRISE-SURPRISE! $60 book value translates to
$40 something real value! Right where the auctions
end.

The BIN is down from the original $200 to around $182 now.
When it gets to $70, I might pay a premium because I do
like something about the coin.

Maybe it's just a weak strike, but I'm also seeing some wear on elements of the shield.
I'm hardly an expert here, but it strikes me more as a good AU.

Kurt
I think once the rim is dented, 7 o'clock shield side,
it is knocked out of the AU realm. I am settling on
XF 40 myself.
It would be interesting to see the PCGS label on this one.

I recently got a rude guy when I asked about the return policy. he gave me a vague answer and when I asked more questions became quite rude, I guess he wanted uneducated sheep to bid because his coin had problems...

The coin looks cleaned - very cleaned. Details wise, it's easily AU, but with the cleaning, I wouldn't pay more than VF money for it.

Too many nice mid-grade examples already available in NGC or PCGS plastic - why bother with a dog? There is really nothing attractive about that coin to me.

Furthermore, the seller is breaking ebay rules by assigning a numerical grade to a raw coin. If he wants to lie and call it Choice BU, that's fine. A lie, but one that follows ebay rules.

I've reported it to ebay for listing violation - fat chance they'll do anything - he is a Piwerscrewer, after all... But MS63 it aint.

Nothing wrong with giving it a grade in the description.
