@NDBirdman, blast white only or do you like rim toners? Or lighter colorful ones?

from the rim pic it looks like the coin isn't flat and may be bent

The pics on this coin are all over the map. Some look decent, others show these toning stripes, and others even suggest wear. I cannot imagine it coming back straight-graded, but even if it does, it is an unattractive specimen with a greatly diminished market value.

nevertheless, it is a 1928 Peace dollar and it looks like a fairly high grade under the toning. I vote to not dip it and leave it as is.

OP indicated earlier that he will submit it - is that still the case?

Agree with Frog and I dont think its worth subbing. Looks damaged, and even if not damaged, tons of finger prints and the toning is very dark.

In answer to a couple of the questions: (My mom had been an active collector and taught me basics when I was a child (now 52 and spending a lot of time educating myself again). My mom passed last year and I'm going through items for my father-- all the coins I've posted came out of her untouched collection which was stored for 50-60 years. This was out of an old Whitman holder. 1. The coin is actually perfectly round. I apologize that in some of the pictures is does appear non-round but this was the angle. I meant to mention this in the description. 2. I just sent it in to PCGS yesterday with a selective variety of many nice other coins (Including the 1922 NO D Strong Rev I had posted last year). This coin is a gamble but I've rolled the dice and I will post the results. This Peace dollar is not what I would call pretty at all. More "uniquely toned." Although I prefer no toning, or mild rim tone, I am ok with the dark color in this one but don't like the diagonal stripe across the obverse. Under the microscope it has some faint luster. Pretty good shape under micro up close with only few and no significant scratches or gouges that I can see. Not a lot of wear. 3. I have never used PCGS or NGC's cleaning/conservation service. I was wondering if anyone had and how you determine which coins to consider for this process. Might this coin be one since the toning on it is not loved by many as exemplified by the comments? I really love this forum and the community of experienced individuals that participate. I learn so much ready and posting. So.. thank you all.

Sounds like a wonderful way to remember the time you spent with your mother.

Thank you, I have really enjoyed this process and have learned so much. I even have her paper records from purchases she made from local auctions in the 1960's. Just sad that I can't share this with her in person. With new USB microscopes enabling us to view images at the same time, - she would have loved the hunt together.

Natural toning for sure. Hard to grade from pics.

yes I would never suggest removing toning from a heavily toned coin,,or paying for conserving. you never know what lurks underneath..i have no issue with the natural toning displayed.. just the photos that showed it out off round..

PCGS grading came back - not what I had hoped for: Genuine AU detail with Environmental Damage. I believe the palm print/finger prints created the environmental damage detail. The coin is round and plum. I am seeking any recommendations to optimize value as I'm going to sell it: : - leave it as is in slab, send it for Conservancy and regrade, other? Thanks for your comments - I really appreciate it.
