I said Silver because I buy Australian and the Silver Proofs from the Royal Australian Mint and the Perth Mint are so much nicer than the US proof Sets

I'm not into collecting mint and proof sets. I opt to collect all the annotated Silver Proof Sets. nlp

I said proof set. But I don't collect it as a set, they go into the albums of the series I collect.

silver silver silver silver silver. did I mention silver. I actually get both but I prefer silver. But I have to agree sometimes that some are a waste of time and money. Most of my 80's proof sets were bought at the mint and are now not even worth what I paid for them. Thats why I say silver! It will always have the bullion value

If my calculations are correct, then there is 1.35 troy ounces of silver in the Silver Proof set. Someone double-check my math here... it is Friday, after all! 1 Half Dollar at 12.5 grams. 5 Quarters at 6.3 grams each, 31.5 grams. 1 Dime at 2.5 grams 46.5 grams total, but only 90% of it is silver. Assuming 90% by weight, there are 41.85 grams of silver. 41.85 grams = 1.34550874 troy ounce

Ask for the silver from Santa (it costs more) then buy the regular yourself. And the regular one will most likely be easier to afford in the future.

Personally, I think regular proofs are shinier, and can have a deeper mirror-like fields, but I still prefer silver proofs...since they are silver I've got a weakness for things that are made of silver...and gold...

1 silver half = 12.5g X 0.90 = 11.25g of silver 5 silver qtrs = (5)6.25 X 0.9 = 28.125g of silver 1 silver dime = 2.5g X 0.90 = 2.25g of silver
So you have 41.625g of silver / 31.1g in a troy ounce
= 1.3384 troy ounces of silver.

I started collecting the silver proof sets in 1999 when the State Quarter program started.

I collect both too......but "silver" would win in a "one or the other" choice. I have yet to "crack" a set, but that choice will be there for me if I choose to do so in the future.
