If that's a gVF, Charlton's Canadian catalogue would put it easily around CAD $600

Coindexter, I just made a call on the first coin by Hussulo. On yours I cannot see the date enough in detail to tell which of 6 types for 1859 would be your penny. Bigger pics would sure help for the "59" in the date.

Nice grade on that coin! Yours is the "narrow date" variety--see how the 9 is spaced closer to the 5 than the rest of the date?

Kurt, I thought it was the shape of the nine when they referred to the 'narrow' nine. The loop of the narrow nine is oval where the other nine is more round.

Well...my opinions certainly aren't conclusive. From what I've seen the W9 has a very round upper opening. I just thought yours looks closer to my Narrow 9, where the date position was perhaps the "near 9" reverse die: detail of your coin:

Kurt, Confusion reigns supreme. I'm sorry for not being clear. I always thought mine was a narrow nine varity. I was under the impression that the shape of the '9' was the determining factor (that is how my Charlton describes them. Gotta upgrade the reference books

wwhitman...no worries! I'm presently looking for a "wide 9" variety, so I was focused on that. Hopefully, I'll have a good find soon...if all works out.

Here's the "wide 9" variety for comparison--what do you think? (Actually, this is the 1859/8 using a "wide 9", but the 9 is close to the non-overdate variety)

Gee, Kurt I think I would have to say it's a wide nine. I had always classified as narrow nine because of it shape. Image: Canada_1859_1CentW9_Rev.jpg40.67 KB
