Grade My 1888 Newfoundland 50cent

I would say VF30.

These are the guidelines I go by from J.A. Haxby's book

F- braid segments begin to merge together
VF- braid is clear but not sharp
EF- braid slightly worn but generally sharp and clear

agreed on the VF20 - the braid is not worn down to the cheek and appears as a braid.

VF 20 for sure
David, maritime coins are graded a bit different than regular coins.

I have one in better condition than this one and ICCS only graded it at only F-12 and these guys call themselves pro``s

Oh yes hhbkiddo I got every nefie .50 silver from 1870 to 1919 with extras.

David, I just picked up a 1874 50 cent in high grade as part of a deal involving 52 coins.
soon I will divest myself of most or all NFL coins to concentrate on pure and true Canadian 1858-1936

Here is an example of an 1888 that I believe to be VF20
Grade-My-1888-Newfoundland-50cent

and here is another 1888 that I have and believe to be EF40

I hate to say but wwhitman's coin would with any luck be graded only VF by a coin grading sercive

At the very bottom the initial half is F-15. Impossible to go lower. Excellent chance for VF-20.

I would say VF details but I think the rim dings would result in a net grade of F-15 max.

F-12 maybe 15. The rim damage and facial nicks hurts value.
