A And Tights, Well gosh, I feel a bit the unintelligent one. I double checked the $1 bills. I saw Washington on them (these are not the 1899 ones) and in turn thought.. standard one dollar bills. In printing out the scans to take to a antique store in Marietta,Georgia I noticed they were all: ONE SILVER DOLLAR ($1 BILLS). The best of the lot is a K Series of '1928A'. Any thoughts?

I'd be interested in what the antique dealer says. Tell him right away that you are not interested in selling. That way he won't tell you what he would buy them from you for. Also, spending a few bucks in his store might help grease the wheels for a decent appraisal.

Sorry guys, but of course I completely forgot to do any investigating for you. I've been traveling a ton lately. I'll remember soon.

Greetings All, Hope the week is going well. Well here we are, another election day. Ironically tights24, I have an appointment with at reputable (at least for Atlanta) collector/dealer. All of the dealers were away for the weekend in TN for a big collector's show. I am going to try and acquire a hard plastic case for the 1899 and get the other bills looked at as well. Have a wonderful day everyone. P.S. for the coin collectors out there, I may have some neat pictures for you in January or February.

Uh Oh! Apparently the Dealer saw my email images from over the weekend when he returned to his shop this a.m. The appointment is for 1pm. He, before I've even stepped foot in the door, has started placing offers via email and phone. I'm not sure if I'll be able to get a 'actual' value on it now. We'll see...I'll let you all know what he says when I return.

Greetings All, Well the expert gave my 1899 the once over. You were right as to the i.d. of the bill Acid. When I shined a flashlight through it before the appointment I could have sworn I had seen at least three folds. When Gary first reviewed the bill he only could find one fold. However upon further inspection there are indeed 3 folds taking the Grade from AU to XF. He reviewed the current prices and stated the 'Dealer Price' was $195. I did pick up sleeves for all of the bills as well. Any thoughts as to what a Retail Value would be for this bill? ----------------- He looked over the 1934A Silver $1 Bill as well. It is a 'Funny Back' with a VF Grade. In looking up the value the cost he quoted $23 Dealer Cost. Also want to check in with the forum as to what the suggested Listing Cost should be should I put it up for auction? ----------------- Hope the week is going well for everyone. Cameron Beach

A, Good to hear from you. One of the facinating things to see were all the gold krugerands(mispell?). Hadn't ever seen those before in person. Also saw some great Gold $1 Bills. ---------- He did look over the $10 1934A. I was surprised that it received such a good grade though of Fine' , as I thought it was in a lesser condition. He stated that the dealer cost would be approximately $18. I'm actually heading back over there today to purchase a Va.bicentennial silver coin for my father. Sincerely, Cameron

Ahh!, 1936 commem. Nice coin...expensive coin. Ship on the obverse and the royal mace on the reverse. When you get it, take a few pictures. I'd love to see it.

A, I forgot to get back to you earlier. Unfortunately when I returned to the rare coin shop someone else had purchased the commem. coin. This is unfortunate as I was going to get it as a 'Get Well' gift for my father. ---------- I also forgot to mention that I've listed the 1899 $1 silver certificate. If anyone on the forum has time, please take a look at it on ebay and let me know how the listing looks overall. www . ebay . com ; Item number: 170277743492 ; 1899 $1 SILVER CERTIFICATE,Speelman&White,Near AU ---------------------------- I will probably be listing the $1 silver Certificate Funny Back shortly as well. ------------------------- Hope the weekend is starting off nicely for everything, excluding the stock markets continued decline. )-: Best, Cameron

Greetings All, Hope the holiday season is treating everyone well. I am contemplating selling the 1899 $1 Silver Black Eagle directly to the dealer. The current dealer Ask is $195. He offered me even Less than the Dealer at only $175. However trying to sell at or near retail and now near Ask on ebay has proved unsuccesful. Any thoughts?

to CCF. I am not a bill collector, but was intrigued by the thread. If I were you, I'd keep it! Unless ya need the dough. I guess you have it encased between glass right now. Take it to a frame shop, get acid free paper and mount the bill. Your grandchildren will appreciate it in the future and you can appreciate it now. Best of luck

Nice notes there. To get the pic files below 100K, one free utility I like to use is Irfanview. Always shoot for a file size < 100K whether you are uploading for display or emailing to someone. Thanks for sharing this bit of history.

IMHO, I would definitely keep the note, because it is seriously in a good condition, it has a history in your family, and $200 is just too little for such a note. If you need money, why not sell your iPod or game station or anything else? I would, since those mean almost nothing to me. Anyways, I agree with wwhitman. You should definitely get this graded not just for the grade, but because it will add to the price and also protect the note, like in cases of this: http://www.coinnews.net/2008/11/25/...ke-the-heat/

The secret to wealth is hanging on and not spending it. $200 or even $300 may look good to you now, but will regret it later.
