The picture really doesn't help much and I can't find any similar 1/2 crowns online to compare prices. I think I would have held off without seeing a picture of the obverse.

Krause values in USD are:
F-$5 VF-$8 XF-$25 UNC-$100

Post pics of the coin when it arrives and I hope everything turns out well for you.

No, why would you ever take an ebay seller at his word?

Hey Matt, don't you sell on ebay?

The reverse looks pretty good, but from what I usually see, the obverse on these typically shows more wear. Assuming that there is no damage or environmental issues on the blind side, you probably have a gVF-EF coin.
It's also hard to tell if the luster is original.
In my opinion the price you paid is not bad at all, considering the nice looking picture. even if you end up only displaying that side it's not a huge investment =)
Cheers!

jab--I like it a lot and am looking forward to your pictures. From an American grading perspective it definitely appears almost uncirculated.

Also, it's nice to see a seller who works with you on the shipping, there are some sellers who charge $14-15+ each to send coins.

**shakes head** - you just cannot tell from that picture - what does it actually look like? The obverse?

I think you did alright, JAB. I don't think the coin will turn out to be the condition the seller says that it is- and you should always contact the seller ahead of time if possible and harrass him for new pictures. For all we know there could be a huge gash across HRH Victoria's face.

However, this cost less than $20 shipped, right? Not an expensive lesson to learn from, and the possibility of having picked up a nice coin. One you could always save and ship out as a gift in the Holiday Exchange, if you don't like it and it isn't too bad.

Here are the pics. I must say even though I don't know how to grade it, its AWESOME.. Looks really nice to my eyes. :D Great toning near the rims, nice luster around the coin... And I also must say, not much wear :D Well to my noob eyes anyway. :D These are scans, so they are pretty much crap. And I know I'm gonna get owned for this, but I don't have a decent camera.. :( Anyway heres the pics.. :D Enjoy!
