I research plenty online. Also iv learned plenty on here.once I finally decide to learn ebay or Amazon or etsey and calculate shipping etc. I will hopefully sell some of my varieties and get the book. For the most part my coin budget has not changed since iv started this. My income has become half of what it was when I first joined and my expenses have almost doubled so I'm in debt.

On another side not I tried to luck for doubled died varieties on Wexford and for some reason Jefferson nickels are the only list I can't open.

wrekkdd ... As I've said in the emails, just find a way to Burlington to pick up your microscope and camera. What SPP means by "study" is to do more than read a few pages once and then forget about it. You have to understand what is written and how it applies to your coins and how coins are actually MADE. For the Charltons, you don't need the latest; 2-5 years old are just fine.

I understand, I haven't forgotten all that iv learned so far but iv been learning in pieces with gaps of information missing in the middle. A Charlton would help me put the missing pieces together. I don't usually skim. Like until coop mentioned single squeeze dies I had no idea modern American coins have specific spots that a doubled die can occur.im not sure if the same dies are used in Canada or if they are used on all denominations. So reading a full book would be very helpful and I plan on grabbing one asap

I have to agree with the other posters, you need some books, more than you need a microscope. Funds are short these days for everyone, but a month's budget for coins, spent on books is a great investment. Like stated earlier, you don't need the most recent, and the older ones are easily found for cheap.

I should be able to afford them both without hurting myself to bad. Half of the questions I ask I say in my posts that I'm pretty sure I know the answer. That's because with some errors it's possible to be one thing or another(if you dont know everything) which is why I need a book. That being said I need a microscope just as badly to differentiate and actually be able to find doubled dies and fine errors. I agree with all of you. Iv made almost 1000 posts and all that iv found from those posts is knowledge from all of you. I should be able to do a lot of this on my own if I bought a Charlton months and months ago.

If you are looking for Charlton catalogues and are not constrained by this year's edition... Look to online vendors for ones a few years old. I was looking @ Colonial Acres Blowout Sale and they have a volume 1 (2016) for 3.95 https://www.colonialacres.com/produ...e70.2016.htm and a volume 2 (2018) for the same price https://www.colonialacres.com/produ...th.zd143.htm

for $8 + shipping, you will still have plenty left over for the microscope fund. BTW... Not affiliated in any way with Colonial but I do like them as I save the BC sales tax since they are in Ontario.

@gidget, I know my library card number 220220********, with covid they have been closed. And working 10-6 monday to Friday with my 1 year old son leaves little time for me to go. But I'll definitely be purchasing a Charlton catalog and @johnwayn007, your book is definitely on my list once your done. Once I can finally find time and a ride to Burlington okiecoiner has made me a generous deal for a scope and then some.

I have a passion for numismatics that is only growing and thanks to everyone here I'll be able to up my level. Once I have more knowledge to fill in gaps hopefully I'll be more entertaining to everyone here:p

I appreciate anyone who takes the time to read my posts and give me advice. I'm kinda stubborn in real life and stuck on my own thoughts and honestly this hobby has helped me grow in more then one way, so thank you again every one of you the continues to read my posts and give me advice. Your criticism and acknowledgment and knowledge helps me to grow and you ask nothing from me other then I grow my knowledge. I may never be as great as some of you vets but I strive to know what you know so I will continue to post and learn and grow and upgrade.

Iv never had a hobby I really clang to, maybe I give up on it at some point, though again, I'm stubborn.

Yes, the 67 gold coin is $20 denomination. The sets with this coin were such a bargain at the time. I have yet to get one....it's on the most wanted list though. john100, the 50 cent has the howling wolf in silver that year. Another beautiful coin.

I remember way-back-when, working my butt off on my paper-route to earn enough to get both the gold (black) and Medallion (red) 67 sets. $40 or $45 bucks (I don't remember the exact cost for the gold set) back then was a big deal for a young high school kid.
I should have worked harder to have been able to afford 2 of each - lol

Wrekkdd - I hope you find a few treasures in that stash!

I had brain cramp earlier, the gold piece is a 20 dollar value, I was thinking of many years ago an error collector was offered a gold 1967 wolf coin, it was produced by the two rogue RCM employees that created the 1969 flip over pennies, kind of sad all these years latter the 1967 gold piece is worth a little over bullion.

That's true, but way back in 67, gold (bullion) was at $32 (US) an ounce. What's bullion going for today? $1,800(US) ?
Granted, that $20 gold piece is less than an ounce, and I believe it's only 24K, not .9999, but I think it's one of the best coin purchases I've ever made.
Plus the set does look outstanding after all these years.

Didn't have time to get a great look at her stuff but ya there is 3 coins in long white box sets with blue velvet, and several mint 67sets in the plastic with the card from the mint, 10 1969 suzan b Anthony dollars, and a 1968 mint set in plastic(didn't check if it was magnetic or not. There was several 1$ bills one I good shape but it was a 1967 no serial number dollar. Then some old 5$ bill as well in good shape, as well as a horribly kept 1938 10$ bill, plus some other bills I didn't have time to photograph anything yesterday but nothing super special, I'll go through the sets and see if I can find any errors like the 67 penny doubled die, the Penny's dimes and nickels are all in great shape in the box sets, but the 50¢ and dollars from the set are very "dirty" looking and not in the best shape, the plastic wrapped sets are all in good shape.
