So the last photos were taken with a background that just kind of blended into the coin with a desk lamp directly over top of it, here is just natural lighting photos. The scratch is barely visible without a bright angled light hitting it. Edit:even if no price difference they usually list the different varieties in the pricing graph. This one is not listed in the graph it self as a variety.

So are we still at VF15 ish? I wouldn't normally buy a coin like this but it had good detail and I bid last second and happened to win it for under 20$ including shipping. I also normally don't go for 10¢ coins but the price seemed decent. I have no idea if verdicare or acetone would make any difference to the coins appearance, the layer of black does seem to be on top of the coin rather then just toning as I can see thicker spots on the obverse. Any recommendations?

In total this one cost me $19.06, I'm not sure how much value would be effected by the colour, or if there is any way to improve the coins colour.

Even without the color, I doubt it is even near a $20 coin. As you progress more into bidding and buying, you will learn a little more every day.

Definitely learning more about condition but all pricing guides including my Charlton have this coin around 20$ in VG+condition. If f12+ under 20$ sounded like a good deal. Not sure where to find an accurate price guide. I personally like the obverse for the detail left as all my silver Vikki's are a fair bit more worn down.

Ya I was including ebay listings. I have seen some in similar condition with no black or toning so I just assume some sort of cleaning. I should go off of ebay specific listings though. Since I don't sell any of the coins I buy I can only hope value increases or maintains over the next decade.

You can't use the ebay "listings". You have to go to the advanced search and only look at what things actually "sold" for. A person can "ask" or list at $100 for a $2 coin. You have to see what things actually SELL for.

When I said checked ebay listing I meant ebay sold listings.

Another rule of thumb that I've heard used by reliable people is to take the Trends down to ~60 or 70%%.

Thanks guys. I'll keep all this in mind next time. I believe there is a show in Hamilton coming up so I'll probably save some money for that.

The Grey crud .. silve4 cancer stage 1 or 2 . Not fixable , this plus the scratch equals details . One thing you are going to learn as you go along Nice Victorian through George V silver coins in Unplayed with original surfaces , very difficult to acquire . A really nice original VF 30 ICCS of this date we got OVER trends !

Lesson learned! Thanks Pacificoin, it's rare I see anything that nice on ebay that is not being sold for 20-30% above trends(trends that I know) luckily I didn't have to learn this lesson with a much more expensive coin:) hopefully I'll pick up some more tips and some nice coins at my first CAND show next month!
