I could very well see AU50 with this one as well. Quote: Either you guys or NGC's graders are gonna look kinda silly Probably NGC, what did they say? AU55/58?

Wow was I off bad on this one. The color looks much better when viewed with the full slab. I still think the AU-58 grade is too high. There is flatness to the hair curls and the cheek and I don't contribute it to weak strike flatness. Copper coins take on many different colors. The XF one I have is a very dark chocolate brown. This is why I hate trying to grade a coin simply from pictures. Congrats on a nice pickup!

I would have never called that coin AU-58 . I was contemplating between VF-35 & EF-45 .

I could see the argument for low-mid AU. Looking at it again, the fields show very few marks, strike weakness and worn dies instead of wear at the high points. I'm guessing this looks more apparent in hand.
That said, I can't see any higher than AU53, 55 on a good day with more luster apparent in hand. AU58 seems pretty generous. I can't see this selling for 58 money. Not much spread in price from AU50-55, bit of a jump at 58.

I liked it, and paid $288 for it, which is right around greysheet value for AU58bn.

Too much for me, but if you're happy, that's what counts.
