While ebay can be very frustrating, I have to say that I agree with this change. Unscrupulous sellers can request cash as payment and the buyer has no recourse. Quite frankly, I think this is a case of ebay trying to protect the people who don't do their research, don't check the seller's feedback, and then put themselves in a position where they're going to get scammed. Buyers should be smart enough to know better than to send to cash to anyone they haven't already done business with, but we all know that there are plenty out there who don't take the time to educate themselves and then want to blame everyone else for their mistakes.

Well ebay policies are soooo consistent Look at this vendors name and then look at the fact that cash only is accepted from foreigners I did not look up the "coin" but I presume it is one hundreth of an ounce stuff medal http://cgi.ebay.de/PERU-1885-1-SOL-...cmdZViewItem

Complaints about ebay is one of the main reasons I put up my auction site. They no longer care about the seller or buyer. There are so many stories everyone has heard and/or experienced that if it wasn't for the simple fact that they have the volume (for now at least) of visitors, no one would sell there. I can't wait until I go international with my site. I will hope to give them a run for the money. <--- no coin pun intended.

There are a few alternative auction sites in germany I only went to look twice Problem is people wanting too high a price and the offer being too limited On the other hand what seems to be working is ebay sellers somehow getting their private website or private shopsite to you by testimony of german coinforum buyers assuring that they are legit and problemfree I now have the choice of at least three shops off ebay were I can buy silver coins 10-15% below the price of ebay

I noticed today ebay did not refund fees when they canned my auctions. Upon contact they stated it was their new penalty regime to enforce compliance. While I do not agree with their policies I agree to some point that they need some standards sellers need to abide by. Taking money from you is a bit heavy handed though. Their professionalism leaves a lot to be desired when you lodge a complaint or want an explaination or want a decision reviewed. This is particularly so in my case where a phone consultant and a superviser both agree ebay was partly to blame for my situation. Looks like I will just lodge a claim using my credit cards consumer protection scheme as charging me and not allowing my auctions to finish without a refund means I did not get what I paid for!!!!

It seems to me that ebay is making up the rules as they go along. How can a private company issue monetary fines to customers by their own rules? Governments fine people all the time for non-compliance, but they have the power by law to make their fines Legal. ebay has no such authority as a private company. " ebay is getting too big for its own good". Who elected them judge and jury? In my opinion ebay have over stepped their bounds.

ebay is not alone on this, many credit card companies, telstra I think and ergon maybe charge you extra if you are late on a payment.

My question would be where is this "penalty clause" listed in their Terms of Service? And, until this topic came up, I was unaware of ebay's new "no cash" policy. I sure didn't get any notification of it and I read the "My Messages" on My ebay Summary. Fred

Did I understand bigfellow to say ebay was the only auction available in Australia? And speaking of "Cash" here is one for you- In California where I used to live (over 55 years), The Chevron Standard stations in several places posted on their window- No 50.00 or 100.00 bills accepted My first experience was in Truckee,Cal- anyway, I didn't read the sign but had filled up my gas tank. I proceeded to the cashier and handed over my 50.00 bill. The Cashier said, Sorry sir, but we don't take large bills here. I promptly reminded him that this was LEGAL CURRENCY- AND He could either accept it- or call the sherrif and proceed to arrest me (Yes, that is what I did) The Cashier got on the phone- and in about 5 minutes there was the manager who came in and unlocked their safe- I got my change-- Now, I did this more than once in California. Within a year- these stations were no longer posting such nonsense. So Big fellow- In spite of ebay's grand scheme to help you- it does appear to me that you have a case. Some smart lawyer could probably make himself a pile of money-(If he is brave) ebay now owns paypal and of course, they are doing their best to force people on Paypal. I have used ebay for a number of years- but have recently gone over to Yahoo.com and with fair results. Yahoo does not charge any fees for listing, for final value etc; However, sending remittances via yahoo is not automatic as it is on ebay. Good luck-bigfellow. habiru001

Your particular situation, you were correct. However, the premise you are trying to demonstrate is basically incorrect. You would only win in that situation because the gas is already in your tank. If they asked you how you were going to pay before they pumped your gas and you said a $50 bill, they could legally refuse you service. If you walk into a convenience store, they do not have to take your $50 bill. quote: However, no federal law mandates that a person or an organization must accept currency or coins as payment for goods or services not yet provided. For example, a bus line may prohibit payment of fares in pennies or dollar bills.
Some movie theaters, convenience stores and gas stations as a matter of policy may refuse to accept currency of a large denomination, such as notes above $20, and as long as notice is posted and a transaction giving rise to a debt has not already been completed, these organizations have not violated the legal tender law.

Hi again Bigfellow in down-under. Seems like you mentioned ebay was only auction you could get in Australia.. I found this link this morning- that says Yahoo is in Australia- They have offices in your country. Here is the link- http://docs.yahoo.com/docs/pr/release859.html Go to the bottom of the page and read the last paragraph. At least until you can get re-instated on Ebay- you can register and list your auctions with Yahoo auctions. No fees of anykind. I have been using them for some time along with Ebay- and have had some good sales. check it out habiru001

Essentially in Australia the only real option is ebay. There used to be a site called sold.com which was owned by yahoo...ebay bought them out. The other option is Australia is so small that it is not worth bothering about.
