In case someone is reading this and getting started themselves, I also bought a stapler that makes flat staple bends or whatever you say for my 2x2s.

Now, I've been searching around, but can't find the answer. Should I do anything to the coins before placing them in the 2x2 or just put them in there? I've read about dipping them in alcohol or something before hand to remove any oils and such. I don't think I want to rub them with a soft towel do I? What should be done?

Thanks,
AlabamaDan

Only thing I do is dip them in pure acetone. But its not necessary all the time. Better off not rubbing the coin at all. Make sure you are wearing cotton gloves when handling your coins, this will reduce any oils transferring from your hands to the coin.

%90 of the coins I put in 2x2's never touched acetone either, so its completely up to you. As far as the stapler, I just use a normal one with a pliers ;) The replacement staples seem too expensive.

I purchased a MAX HD-50F stapler for around $10 US and it uses standard staples. Bends them over nice and flat No problems yet with it.

My stapler uses standard staples and it's a good thing at 4 staples per 2x2 they don't last long. I got my stuff last night and was like a kid in a candy store. I was a little disappointed in my tubes however. I thought they would hold coins in their roll and while they had the diameter, they weren't tall enough. Also, one of those 2x2 boxes I ordered was damaged. We'll see what they say.

I was pleased with my 2x2s and started mounting some coins right away. Do you review your coins in detail and grade them before putting them away?

I guess thats up to you. If you feel you need a raw coin to grade, then grade them first. I think grading in a 2x2 is just fine and makes for safer handling. One thing to consider is if you are taking pictures of these coins, maybe take a pic first as it is easier to take raw. At least I found it easier.

Hopefully they will send you another box for free! :0

I have had great business with Brent-Krueger, although their shipping is a bit high for single item purchases. They have great customer service as well.

On another post someone posted this place. I've seen their name mentioned many times as a great place to buy things. I never have yet but from what everyone has said, supposed to be OK.

Does anyone know if Wizard Coin Supply ships to the UK?

Are the cardboard 2x2's that they sell are free from pvc?

This thread, http://www.coincommunity.com/forum/...PIC_ID=29274 , and https://goccf.com/t/55131 all have fantastic information about vinyl sheets for 2x2s and binders! I just wanted to say a quick thank you to the members that contributed here to answering my questions (as they were very similar to the OP's in all cases)! =)

Read my post of 5/3/20 about six below yours called "Wizard Supply Co., slow shipping, your thoughts". It deals with members problems with Wizard Supply. I personally had two bad experiences with their shipping and customer service although it wasn't bad enough for me not to return to them as a customer. They do seem to have some of the best prices. Amos and Valley Coin along with Vernon Coin are also good for supplies. I have dealt with all them.

I normally get my supplies from Valley Coin. The Wizard prices are a bit lower but they ship by weight. Valley Coin has flat rate shipping for $5.49. So if you buy a lot of supplies with shipping Wizard may cost more.

I've had good dealings with Brent-Krueger. I also placed an order with JP's Corner (the only one with the book I was looking for). Shipped on time (I don't need this stuff overnight), comparable prices, and so far, no need to deal with customer service departments of either one.

After reading the recommendations on this site I purchased from Wizard Coin Supply on 2 separate occasions. I have tried to return and item, but cannot get anyone to answer the phone or a return call. Maybe they will call next week.

This may be true, but there are three sides to look at when grading - the rim included - and unless the 2X2 has plenty of room around the coin you won't be able to see the rim. Just something to think about...
