Congrats on the grade!
I see the spots in your last image, just not as dark as NGC's photos. I would definitely keep an eye on them and address them sooner than later if they devolved that quickly.

Fyi for everybody, the average retail for an AU-53 is approximately $2,750.00 That is an incredible nickel!

I consider this a cherrypick. I won this and 2 other items, one being an unattributed 1937-D 3-leg, in an auction. I sold them for a decent profit. The net cost including grading for this was a little under $400. I think the spot is more of a rub than anything else, if I remember right.

That spot on the braid looks like it's still there.

I'm a bit surprised McKee coins missed that, they deal with a good number of Buffalo varieties. Congrats again

Wow, very surprising they overlooked the 3-leg. Congrats!

Just got this email from NGC. I had put in the request for conservation, but, they had already shipped it. I'm sending it back tomorrow.

Good Morning Steven, I'm sorry for my delayed response. I received an answer from our NGC expert, he said he very much believes that those spots were caused by PVC, though we do not know when the development of those spots occurred. With that said, he has offered for you to send the coin back for a complimentary NCS service (conservation), which should be able to remove the PVC spots on the coin. I have made a note on the submission that the coin has been approved for this complimentary service, so whoever receives your coin will know what to do with it once received. We apologize for the error and any inconvenience experienced. Please follow the instructions below to submit your item(s) for complimentary reholder service. CERTIFICATION #: 6479678-001 1. Complete a new submission form and hand write "Mechanical Error - Complimentary NCS" 2. Submissions forms can be completed by logging into your account online at NGC Sign In. 3. Cross out any fees and do not check any services. 4. Indicate the reason for the return as a Mechanical Error* 5. Please follow this link to obtain your no-charge return shipping label link. *Failure to make the appropriate notations may result in charges to your account* Please write 'ME' in bold, clear lettering on ALL sides of your box. This helps us differentiate Mechanical Error shipments from our general incoming deliveries so they can be pulled and expedited. If you have any other questions, please let us know. Thank you! killer grade. this coin should serve as a poster child as to how challenging this series is to grade and actually serves collectors well who take the time to study them where they can pick up some great deals if you know what youre looking for
