Well, thanks to you guys...

I was able to cancel my payment before it cleared... :D

Now I am about to find the seller's phone number and get to the bottom of this.

Thanks for your help.

(And pyrbob.. I think you might be right on with what you said earlier.)

Good ending to this story --

I contacted the seller (who turned out to be an elderly couple in Ohio) and they admitted to making a mistake on the listing. The matter has been resolved with no money lost and no bad feedback left.

Turns out this one WAS honest... I couldn't believe it.

...and I won the lot for around $85 (which I think would have been a good deal)

You did the right thing by canceling the payment. Just because they are old does not mean they are honest. They are just more believable, if they are really old folks. You ever heard of Ma Barker

update 2:

better pictures = 5 Barber halves, 1 Walking Liberty half, 2 Barber quarters, 38 JFK halves, 2 Washington quarters, 3 wheat cents, and 3 Buffalo nickels.

i offered her $40 for the lot including shipping and she accepted. will post quality pics when the coins are in hand.

If they are truely old I can see why they might call the barbers Morgan. In the early 20th century it was not unusual for the Barber coins to be called Morgans. In fact some of the early folders for the Barber dime, quarter, and half dollar actually say Morgan dime, Morgan Quarter, and Morgan Half dollar on the covers.

Are the Kennedys silver or clad? Either way, $40 is kind of low-ball...

$40 would be a great deal, even if the JFKs were clad, since you then get 6 silver halves and 2 silver quarters for $21, or less then 7x face. I dont know if the Washington quarters are silver or not, if they were it would be an even better ratio.

Yeah, I offered her a low-ball amount because of the drama the confusion caused. I didn't really expect her to accept the offer (and especially not to cover the ~$12 shipping cost). But yeah... I got a really good deal. The package is on the way and I'll post pics of everything when it gets here. I hope there's a keydate lincoln or buffalo in there, too!
