Quote:I have never heard of a 1999 DDO nickel, nor have I ever heard of a few of the other varieties mentioned there (1984 DDR, 1996-D DDO, 2000 DDR). As far as I know, those four do not exist. Makes sense. Currently, I am looking at every detail on every nickel under magnification, because I also look for die cracks, chips, and other stuff. I've never found any examples of the coins above, but then again, I've never found any DDO / DDR coin in my limited coin roll searching. Quote: Best to just use VarietyVista and Wexler/Brian's Variety Coins, which they do reference in that article. In all honesty, there are many listings on Variety Vista where I just can't see what they are calling a DDO / DDR. The Cherrypicker FS-### listings seem the most apparent, but I have not yet found a Cherrypicker-only list with examples. Also, being fair-minded, the discovery process starts somewhere. I didn't immediately rule out the possibility that bloggers and enthusiasts have found DDO / DDR examples that will one day become confirmed VV/Wexler listings, or even official Cherrypicker FF-### listings. It's a sunny day, so I will take some magnified pictures of the mint marks with some normal reference examples.

Quote:there are many listings on Variety Vista where I just can't see what they are calling a DDO / DDR I am confident all of the ones listed on those two sites are all doubled dies (with some debated ones maybe being exceptions) though, yes, many are definitely hard to spot. I like those two sites the most for nickels since you know you won't be missing anything. Quote: but I have not yet found a Cherrypicker-only list with examples. Maybe VarietyPlus is what you're looking for then? Seems to be mostly CPG varieties plus a handful of other notable varieties.: https://www.ngccoin.com/variety-plu...date/?page=1Quote:I've never found any DDO / DDR coin in my limited coin roll searching. Nickels through Quarters can be tough for learning how to spot doubled dies as there are extremely few doubled dies known on these coins from the late 1970s to the early 2000s. I think it's best to focus on super-modern (late-2000s to present) and early clad (mid-1970's and earlier) when starting out with these since those date ranges are when doubled dies are most abundant. Once you get familiar with what doubled dies look like then try the one-in-a-million chance of finding an 80s-90s doubled die, otherwise you'd probably get frustrated fairly quickly.

Huh. I had visited NGC for their grading resources, but I didn't realize that there was a visual reference for errors. That's a nice, concise library of images! Thanks for the link.

Just reading through your own site now. Very clean aesthetic. Are these coins that you personally own?

Quote: Are these coins that you personally own? Yes, nearly all of the ones under the Scott listings are my own. I probably won't put much more work into that site as I am working on doubleddie.com now.

Please do, I am sure that everyone would be interested to see it.
I would point out that hand punching of mint marks stopped a long time before 1999.

geno, Do not send any in till you post photos here on CCF. You need to start your own threads, one for each coin. John1
