Nice image of the rim but the weight really needs to be determined to confirm it's missing a layer.

It's a $20 investment. If you are going to be serious at all about coins you need to purchase one.

Without an accurate weight all we can do with this coin is speculate based on your photos. I speculate that it's environmental toning/staining.

You can get a scale accurate to 2 decimal places (in grams) on Amazon for $10.

If you are going to buy a scale,best to get one that reads down to 0.001 and not 0.01.

@John three decimal places is way overkill since the third place will be trivial within mint tolerances for any coin. One vs. two decimal places is the cutoff that matters.

Three decimal places is good for doing more accurate specific gravity tests. If you won't be doing specific gravity tests, then two decimal places is fine.

the cladding layer is pretty obviously there in the edge photo, right?
