1914 Lincoln Wheatback Cent Grade?

1914 after using Verti-Care. I may try a second treatment on it... I also got my Nikon D-100 charged up and working. Used a Sigma 70-300 macro lens with a NikonPN-11 extension tube.

And, ouch, I see a large staple scratch across the head - it didn't show in the first pictures.

I have two white haired dogs in the house that shed about two dogs a year worth of hair, and I guess one of them landed on the coin as was taking the picture. I noticed it too, but when I looked under the scope there was no scratch.

After having another close look under the scope I do see what looks like a very tiny scratch. It is not visible to the naked eye, and it is very hard to see with the scope.Darn it...

As for the photos, I was a member of the local photographic society for a few years. (Expensive hobby) I won several awards. I also got seven pictures published in a local tourism magazine back in 2018. I was taking an advanced digital photography class at a local university and part of the class assignment was to photograph local sites of interest. I even ended up guest lecturing for that class on the use of Photoshop including proper white balance and removing unwanted things from photos. So I kinda have a hand up when it come to taking good pictures.

Unfortunately a 24mp microscope is still cheaper than a good closeup macro lens fro this old D-100. That and the D-100 is only 6mp. The lens I have will only focus at more than 3 1/2 feet with an extension tube to make it fill the frame, and that disables the auto-focus...

That's not bad at all!!! I had a better camera and a few nice lenses, but I had to sell all of my good photo gear to cover medical bills and such. A good lens for my D100 would cost me at least $400 that I don't have right now.

When I took that photography class I did it just to have something to do for a couple of days a week. What amazed me was 2 out the 11 students in the class had Ds and one even failed the class. All they had to do was take pictures, go to class and turn them in. They didn't even have to be good pictures.I turned in over 3000 images. One student only turned in 7 total for the entire semester.

Yeah, a decent macro lens on ebay from a reputable seller is still in the $150 to $200 range.

I was blown away when the professor told me about the guy who failed that class. All he wanted to talk about when he had to present his assignments was his frat brothers...

All young people these days just pop out their "smart phones" to take pictures. I guess it's just too much trouble to actually learn how to do something. I mean with all of the f-stops and shutter speeds and focal length and depth of field stuff (Sarcasm) how can we expect generation "give it to me now" to even try when all of that is built in to their pocket computers...
