If the Fed only had a responsibility to the economy, and not to other interest groups, such as collectors they would not produce any 1 cents ever again.

Emphasis mine. Replace the word "produce" with "order" and I agree! The Mint makes them; the Fed distributes them.

I see a couple of potential rarities this year, especially from the Denver Mint.

...and there it will be properly ignored, unless you have some big lobby money to back it up!

I got 2 2009 lincoln cents at the grocery store today in my change. No mintmarks but they are AU50+.

I'm still waiting on my mint set order, subscription, hope against hope, whatever. I did get my Presidential proofs last month. Guess I should just be quiet.

I too have gotten half a dozen in change. So I have hit every bank in the town we live in, the town where the wife works, and in the town where I work. And still none to be had at the banks! So where I ask are they coming from? The teller that saves half rolls for me said she spoke with the brinks guys and they told her that they have had several boxes on the truck. They are specially marked to identify them as the log cabin cents. None have been dropped in this area but still they are here in very minute quantities.

The only way to get more into circulation would be if every person went and ordered $50 of cents from the bank and held onto them for 2 months.

onejinx, I have four boxes on order for almost two months now and I talked to six other banks and was told that they can not order a specific year or mint mark. Does anyone know if Brinks sells to the general public? And how much is the handling fee that Brinks charges per box of coins to the bank? If it's like a dollar or so ,i would pay that would you?

I think you missed my point. If every person in the US wnet and got a $50 box from any bank. It would deplete the general supply and the Feds would have to start shipping more of the new cents out.

if everyone did that, it would involve 1.2 trillion cents. I don't think even that many exist.

PS aren't boxes $25?

I see what SuperDave is talking about. The Denver mint has produced only 700,000 Golden Dollars vs 7.2 million for Philly, and 41.5M dimes vs Philly's 78.5M.
Both mints have run 1.7M halves, which is exactly how many they minted all year last year. I suspect they will halt these for the rest of the year, demand for the half being what it is. (grab 'em up now. Go see what a pair of P&D rolls of 2008 Halves are going for right now).
Denver has been running about 5.4M quarters for Jan and Feb. In March, -0- minted. They've been running 21M dimes a month until March, then -0- again.
If this keeps up, this could be some record low mintages for Denver.
