My assumption would be that the "silver" is an artificial colour, and that someone attempted to silver-paint a penny to make it look like a halfcrown.
Painting a copper coin to make it look silver or gold is illegal under British law.

No, Sap , there has been gold painted over the silver of the coin the silver does not come off the gold does, I am wondering if there were some fakes , but that's a lot of trouble to go to for a fake, although in the '30s the penny would have been a lot as the annual wage was about £125 , so maybe they did fake some of them.

Safi, I'm in the "plated" camp, with gold paint over the plating. By the way, have you weighed and measured your coin?

Even in the 1930s it was hardly worth faking a penny - if you were going to all that trouble making dies or casts, better to fake florins or halfcrowns. These big pennies were in use until 1971 and weren't worth much then: as a kid I remember finding horribly abused specimens in change, and schoolmates would kick them around the schoolyard, lay them on train tracks and drill holes in them. Coins that have a combination of a large size and low face value are prone to being abused!

Okay Hondo Boguss and Hogarth, and yes Sap I know it is illegal, but I didn't do it, I found it that way.The weight is 9.5 and diameter is 30mm and thickness is 2mm, it won't let me upload from my phone it says the file is too big, and I don't know how to crop it.  |

The plating would have been done by a private individual messing about with a random coin taken from their pocket, so nothing to do with the mint.
