Edge damage could be dryer, but could dryer cause concave/convex shape? That must have one hot dryer.

The damage isn't caused by the heat. Click on => Dryer Coin <= for a full description of what creates the damage.

I concur with Dryer Coin. Thanks for the link nfine. Apparently the long term abrasion on the edge of the coin caused the "dish" shape. Still, interesting affect on the coin.

We used alot of ours during the early 70's to buy family stuff! I probably have more of them in boxes somewhere!!
Tha't's wild that they could still be redeemed.
