Good looking bustie - should go F12 with a tiny bit of a break. Solid VG.

wetglaswegian,

I would agree with F12 and also with Shadow that this one may have been cleaned. I am unable to see hairlines from these photos, but I can see "reflective edges" at the bottom of the bustline and on the edges of the numbers in the date. An F12 coin toned like this one normally doesn't reflect strongly in those areas. It could be from a strong light source, but my guess is polished and retoned. When you do get it, let us know. Still a nice piece of history.

SeatedNut said what I wanted to say. It has a 'glossy' appearance but it could just be the photos.

Thanks guys , I see what you mean now , those bright spots..i hope its just the flash going off thats caused it.
If he is true to his word ill have it tomorrow and get better pics , it was sold as guarenteed original toning , your right Jbuck , I wanted this one , I wont get many bust coins at the price of them so I'm over the moon with this one.

Heres a better pic of that troublesome obverse,i now lean towards its been cleaned albeit lightly perhaps? The obverse seems to be,i could be wrong.

How adveresly is the cleaning going to affect me , if it is cleaned..which I think is possible.

It might be old cleaning, but I would await more expert opinions.

Personally, I like it.

But as I have told you before, I have not bought any Bust coins yet. I do not think I am ready to attribute and price them properly.

That said, this has been a good topic for me to follow!

Cleaning will affect the resale value, but if you like it and the price is right for you then you've accomplished what you set out to do. 28 dollars isn't a bad price for an uncleaned coin.

Thanks guys , normally I wouldnt post the price paid , kinda tacky maybe..but theres a few of us early in our Bust coins and it might be a useful learning curve.
If its a fair price for an uncleaned coin..its got me wondering whats a fair price for a cleaned one?

I do appreciate both your comments lads , I do like it and as Elec Co points out I did accomplish what I set out to do , add a bust dime to the book.Im just uneasy about the cleaning thing.
Ill await other opinions and value them , I'm going with Jbuck and Elec Co words and putting it in the book. Thanks guys

Hahahaha no I wont ... I just found out a Bust dime wont fit in a Dansco dime book I should have known this from my bust half cos it didnt fit in a half dansco or airtite..happily I have a coins of the world dansco 7011 , itll go in there

I have the opinion that if I cannot tell and have to ask someone, then I really do not care if a coin was cleaned or not.

I care most about how a coin appeals to my own eyes. If I cannot see the cleaning, then I cannot let it bother me. Since I never intend to sell them, resale value is never a consideration. I will "overpay" for a coin if it is one that fits my collection and how I want it to look.

As I move out of my modern coin comfort zone, my biggest concern is authenticity and avoiding the forged, faked, and otherwise modified coins.

Yikes...its fraught with hazards eh ? These are probably the best pictures. Its a wonder how the front does look like it might have been cleaned, yet the obverse doesn't.
This has really been an excercise in defining what is cleaning Jbuck , what does it look like , whats fake toning..and gulp...fake coins..
Ive no reason to think its fake , I'm positive it isn't , I just want to be clear what it is I have, what to avoid or look for next time.

I have no reason to think it is a fake, either. Now, finding a Trade dollar for my 7070 is something that keeps me up at night!

Probably why I dabble in dimes and halfs Jbuck , I have some morgans but I dont know the first thing about them.Im like you , I dont intend selling , I never say never as I do like to upgrade sometimes.

But for sheer taking a chance ..well..i just did something I thought id never do.
Ive bid on a coin unseen.Odd as the seller has 100% glowing feedback and all rare coins , but they all had pics..this one didnt.
Bidding was ridiculously low and I had the top bid with 9 secs to go and I quadrupled my bid and signed out.

If I've won it and it is what the auction says..i can take the rest of the day off.
7 days no quibble money back and the best feedback I've seen for a small seller for a long time.

Woo hoooooo I won it at my original bid , 7 day money back and impeccable feedback on some of the rarest coins.
I paid it so with any luck ill have it in a day or two for judging.
