That's an interesting comment about the SMS coins. Hadn't realized that before.

There is no doubt that Dansco album design decisions impact the "demand" side of coin prices. If Dansco specifies a certain error or overdate, Dansco users seek it and drive its price up. But, to be fair, the Dansco people are in a tough situation. They are probably wondering what the people at the Mint are thinking :-)
If you are an avid user of Dansco albums (as I am), consider supplementing their pre-designed albums with extra Dansco pages that hold 2x2 flips.
Also, consider using their custom printed binder service in conjunction with the pages that hold 2x2 flips to make your own album designs. As a token collector, I have 100+ custom printed Dansco albums. They look great on the shelves right next to the standard Dansco-designed ones.

How do you get custom printed Dansco albums? I've never been able to find a Dansco website and all I've ever seen is the little "catalog" that comes with each Dansco album.

Do you think they would agree to making me a 1 1/4" binder using the lettering and inside printing labels from a 7181? Seems like it would be an easy thing to do. ?
They just put the stick on inside printed labels from the one album onto the thicker album... I need to ask about that. I don't want to use 2 or 3 albums for one set just because they split them up into several thin albums.

A 1 1/4" binder with 7181 spine and cover lettering is a Yes. Also, you can fill that 1 1/4 binder with any pages from any album that Dansco makes. But, will Dansco apply the inside cover sheets of a 7181 to a custom binder? It is not listed as an available custom service but it won't hurt to ask. Call them at 323-734-6373. Or Email them at DanscoCorp@aol.com

An excellent suggestion! Quote: Here is a sample of how I order directly from Dansco: As far as I know, Dansco will make any size binder say anything you want. I had no problems ordering replacement binders for some of my albums (some had gotten bigger since I bought them and I wanted the original size). If you have any questions, I suggest you call them first and they will tell you exactly what you need to include in the mailing. It's gotten to the point where I don't even want to buy an album, or any new pages until the page is full, so when the mint plays their games, I wouldn't have to buy new pages.

I've had a Dansco sitting on my shelf for about 6 months relatively untouched, home to a Morgan and Peace dollar.... Overall, I like the folder design, the layout and size. I also got the sleeve cover which make storage easier. The only thing I found frustrating was getting the items (the dollars) in the holes without separating the front side of the page from the back side. Moving coins around in the page reminds me of Plinko on the Price is Right. I don't know how I'm going get rows of small coins to align properly, and without scratching coins against each other as I move them along.

You bring up some good points. And this brings up another subject, why don't they (and other manufacturers) make multiple album options? I would like to see multiple tiers depending on how much you want to spend. They can call tier 1 "Dansco Basic" and it will only have standard issue business strikes with no errors. Tear 2 could have some of the less expensive errors and then a 3rd Tear would includes every crazy thing, like the 1916 DDO Nickel or the 1922 Plain Lincoln.

Jbuck, I had no idea the front plastic covers came out. After trying to slide out a few of them on different pages, I assumed they were glued to the pages since they wouldn't budge. I just pulled out my album and got the front out of one page, though a few of them still won't move. Boy do I ever feel silly

I am glad you got it figured out! They can be tough sometimes, but once you get it out the first time, it should be easy from then on. I love my Dansco albums, but this is one place where the Whitman (and I think Littleton) albums have an advantage: there is a thumb-hole on the edge of the page to access the slides.

Wow, I wasn't aware Dansco would create custom binders. I'm on the fence right now about staying the course with binders or switching to Airtites/2 pocket safe flips for flexibility.

I switched to Dansco albums a long time ago and I really like them. I even buy extra pages and binders and do put miscellaneous and extra coins in them. The ones that have a weird hole in the set for a coin that I'm not going to get I leave blank and never worry about it. The holes that are not filled on coins I intent to buy are on my buy list so that's what I focus on.
