I Love ebay and its a great way to acquire coins. I make it a rule that I would never buy a coin on ebay that is worth more than $75. Anything over $75 bucks I need to see in hand and make sure its authentic.

ebay is an OK source for coins--and entertainment.
Outside of a few sellers I trust, I tread very carefully there.

I really like purchasing from ebay. I generally don't take the words of the sellers as far as grading goes (they tend to overgrade by a grade or 2), but you can usually grade the coin for yourself if the pictures are good. It's important to read the feedback of sellers and be leery of sellers that have a no return policy (especially for pricier coins.) Most importantly, do not purchase coins from sellers located in China:)

For me, if I'm buying a coin from ebay that is of value then I'll only bid on it if it's professionally graded and that certificate is provided for me to look up and verify. Other than that, auctions of "hand full of coins" and stuff like that I also bid on as long as the price isn't too insane.

I never bough a coin that was worth more than 25$ off ebay, but unlike tiker I like un graded coins becuase you might get something extra, I don't mean a copper penny instead of a gold coin, but you might find something that the seller himself wasnt aware of. I recently purchased a coin of ebay for 5.50, hope that when it come it wont disappoints me. I will post it here as soon as it comes.

Here's a nice Probus Tetradrachm, Alexandria AD 276 I got on eBay--from Swamperbob, who's a member here too.
I forget what I paid, but I like it a lot!

I avoid ebay like the plague. I'm new to the hobby, and the amount of fakes there scares me off. I prefer the local dealers I trust, and buying here. My coin club auctions have been a great source for coins! I am also lucky to live in Long Beach, and we've got three shows a year right here in town, and several others in the L.A. area!

I really do try to support my local coin dealers but I do confess that I have made several purchases on ebay and feel sure I will in the future. Never had a bad experience or had to return a coin yet.. hope I never do. Don't charish the thought of resolving some problem. Then I have never bought anything over $100.

I have had no problems with ebay. Now, I buy all my coins from a local dealer that I trust.

With no quality local outlets, I have to purchase on line fairly regularly. I do purchase many from ebay, but also have some other dealers that buy from online.

I love ebay.

I've cherrypicked 3 1921 Morgans in the last month which should all flip for at least 5x what I paid. ebay isn't for the faint of heart or uneducated, but discipline and diligence are rewarded.

+1

My lack of experience and knowledge leaves me feeling a little uneasy about ebay. It's kind of like a mechanic. I only buy from someone I have an established trust with. It may leave me a little limited in choice at times, but, until I know what and how to look for counterfeits or accurate grades, I will be safe and shop from honest people that I know. That is not too say ebay is nothing but a den of thieves. I am sure there are a few very honest sellers. I just don't know them...yet.
