I've seen some screenshots for CoinManage. Are the pictures of the coins provided with the software for comparison? And can you store pics of your own coins in there, too?

Yes, Scooby Due, you can import and store pics of your own coins. I use CoinManage, and am very happy with it.

I use coin manage as well. I find it very easy to use, you can use the photos of the coins already in the program or you can import your own photos very easily.

I use CoinValuesOnline software that comes free with any Coin World subscription. It allows you to download to Excel and is very simple to use.

I use Coin Manage, the image capture is easy ,very good base for collections already in data base . Good dialog boxes , lots of tools to view different groupings, accounting functions, add coins etc great for the price. Have to agree the help desk is closed way to often.

Has anyone tried Compass Collectibles? I downloaded the trial version and it seems pretty good. It has separate "modules" for coins, banknotes, stamps, bottles and a few other things. It seems to be Access based.

I haven't had a chance to play around with it much yet. But I thought I would see if anyone else has any experience with it.

The main advantage of Access over EXCEL would be the reporting that can be done in Access. Reports can be written that can query, filter, sort, etc. fields and generate custom formatted reports. It does take some practice and time to get a usable database. I started in Access, but then went to CoinManage 2011 and it is working great so far. You can create a Access database from scratch, but CoinManage has a lot of built in coin info that is of great use. For me, EXCEL or CoinManage are the two best routes...
