Wheatguy, thanks for posting that. I think your could easily be a VG8. And perhaps the '23S is overgraded. ANA guidelines say the date is clear on both VG8 and F12. But, in practice, the TGP's often grade otherwise. Interesting...

Yes, mine wouldn't surprise me as a VG-8, but I accept it as a very solid G-6. It really is close to VG-8 though. I agree with Johnny, TPG's are very inconsistent with grading these.

Here is the reverse of the 20-D I posted earlier. Unfortunately, it has some scratches, as you can also see on the obverse.

Yeah, my 27-s is also damaged as you can see. I believe the "21" is problem free though.

quite a few years ago, I found a SL quarter while metal detecting around an old school, the only one I've ever found, the date is almost completely gone...except for the last digit being a 1

I don't know a whole lot about SLQ's, but a couple years ago I was offered a 1921 for $150. Only the 1st 1 in the date wasn't visible (_921). I ask because your saying most of the time only the last 1 is visible. Should I have bought it?

Depends on what 1921 Standing Liberty quarters were going for back when you were offered it. It was most likely a Fine, maybe VG coin, worth approximately in the $300 area.

Quote: It was most likely a Fine, maybe VG coin, Are you basing that on the fact the first "1" was missing? Do we have to beat that horse again?

Nope, because with three numbers of the date showing it seemed reasonable. My post may have been misleading, and now perhaps people are practicing on how to grade sight-unseen.
