Is there more to this story? A confrontation, perhaps.

A store can choose to not accept certain forms of "legal tender". There have some interesting threads on this but I don't have time to search at the moment.
That is correct. It was recently discussed here. It has also been discussed here and here.

I'm not convinced there's a law that says anyone HAS to take (any amount of or form of) legal tender from another except in the case of preexisting debt...point-of-sale transactions are not considered preexisting debt.

Why do you want to put in into circulation again? Also if it has any other seal than green you should keep it.

After searching through half a brick of two's I tried cashing them in at A.C for chips for blackjack. What a hassle that was, since they were all in cu condition they looked at me like I had just made them or something. I had to complain to casino credit just to exchange them. Anyway after about twenty minutes they finally took them. Won't make that mistake again.

I carry and spend $2s (it's not like I have $100s to toss around) on a regular basis. It's a good way to get comments and strange looks.

Because it is fun and it forces them to find a spot in their cash register to put the $2 bill (most likely with the $50 and $100).

I know this is a family forum, but tipping with 2's at a gentleman's club creates great conversation and free food and drinks. Lunches are cheaper and better at these locations than going to a fast food when traveling on a regular basis.

Also a friend of mine tried paying with 2's at bowling alley and was told no until a manager came by and saw.

In some places try getting a group together and with a bunch of 2's for small purchases and do a "slam".

The gentleman's club near where I live only gives out 2's when people change money there. The idea being people spend them like they are 1's but in reality they are tipping twice as much. It's funny cause almost all the 2's in the area in circulation originate from there. When I receive them at my work I try to hand them back out, but I've had men refuse them because they didn't want their wives to think they had been there .
Rest in Peace

I run my own business and give out $2's, halves and dollar coins in change regularly. Customers all seem to like getting them, though with the $2's I get a fair amount of "I've got to keep this now" comments. Since I custom built my cash drawer, it has places for both halves and dollar coins and slots for $1, $2, $5, $10, $20 and $50 / $100 / checks.

I would never go to that convenience store again. No matter how you look at it, cash is cash. Cash is always better than credit too.
