Kerry67 I can understand what you are saying about if the buyer doesn't have 50 posts it shouldnt matter because of the reasons you stated. We do however have to go by each and every rule that this forum has (which isn't alot) even though sometimes I may not fully agree with some of them. I do feel this forum has some of the most friendly and knowledgable people here that has taught me alot and I know they will do the same for anyone else that is a member here. I think that maybe it should be at the sellers discretion if he requires 50 posts to allow a sale to any individual but as I stated I have to go by the rules just like everyone else. It would probably be easy to just email the person with less than 50 posts if they showed interest and handle it off the boards if the seller saw fit to do so but on the boards I think we should respect the owners of this forums rules that they saw fit to make, I am sure they didnt make any of them up to alienate anyone and didnt decide on any of the rules without thinking it through fully. I for one couldnt care less if someone posted a few one liners or even one word posts to get their 50 post minimum (like "yep" in one post and so forth) and I am sure others dont either because even if its a 1 word post atleast you are participating and that is always a good thing

Well, as long as we're listing complaints, I make a motion that after each 10 posts a person should receive a Morgan dollar. In addition, upon reaching 50 posts, a person shall be entitled to a one ounce gold eagle

I second that motion! lol...

I respect your difference of opinion, however it is one of the house rules and I doubt it will change. This is a nice forum, but if your primary decision maker/breaker is the length of wait before buying/selling there are other good coin forums that have shorter waits. In fact one of them is my forum home. Each forum is slightly different and all of them are populated with some very nice people, so look around and see how they are. One will fit you best and that is where you will do most of your posting. I routinely post on all of the forums I frequent, and I enjoy them all immensely, but one is my favorite, you need to find yours! Good luck and enjoy the ride!

Dog Man, you should be congradulated for offerering to fund this great Idea. I'm sure you'll get a lot of new members posting and contacting you for their Morgans and Gold eagles after this Very generous offer. LOL, "IF ONLY" you could afford to do that.

for the rule of 50 post before you can buy/sell/trade. I think this is a great rule mainly because in 50 post you can get a feel of a person and see if you feel safe with that person. also we do not what the b/s/t to fell up with people who just want to sell there stuff and not be a help to other collector t help them learn. I no for me it make it easer for me to trade with soemone I have read there post even if they are just short sentances. I will use ebay as a example. I know most of us will not buy a coin form someone who has less then 5 feedback rating. For the fact as soon as we see some feedback for other we knw it is a little easyer to trust the. SO we would not want to get a bunch of member we don't no or trust selling things.just my few thoughts.

Kerry, your point about buying is well-stated and I'd fully support a change in the rules which allowed a new member to buy. My only disagreement is in the relative importance of the buy/sell section of the site - this is, viewed realistically, a very small group and as such only a very small selection of items will be available for sale/trade.

Consider that, as I write this, there are over 106,000 separate auctions for US coins on ebay.

Your point about profit is also well-taken, and it's the main purpose for buying and selling here at all. We are much less likely to try and make our living from our fellow members here than I might be on ebay. Having said that, I still need to make a profit on selling my coins (partly so I can give others away here ), so I'm not likely to sell much at Coin Community.

You have raised what I think is an important topic, one which deserves to be fully discussed as much for the benefit of those who are reading it without posting, as for your own benefit.

Hey everyone...kerry67 has a full understanding of the point of the 50 post rule and appreciates everyones comments and opinions. Now Kerry just wants to continue posting and enjoying the CCF. Can I suggest that we all move on now?

If someone would like to further discuss this topic perhaps it can be done under a new thread. I highly doubt that there will be any different answers than all of the described in Kerry's part I and part II thread however.

I just think that it's time to move out of this thread, as it has been clearly understood by all. It seems unjust to keep lingering on the same point.

Well said, dsking. I think that we just need to bury this post and the one before it and move on.

The 50 post rule here even for buying is for good reason also. No system is foolproof but buyers have done chargebacks thru say PayPal after receiving product. Also when I deposit a check it will show cashed a couple days later, and still bounce up to a month after that. I am only pointing this out for those who say anyone should be abel to buy if they pay upfront.
I sell on e-bay and would prefer to give stuff away or trade here.

Hi Kerry

Although Buying is definitely on the other end of the spectrum from selling,, The fact is it takes a seller and a Buyer to have a transaction,,

To limit one of the parties to 50 posts and not the other would or could be alienating the other.it would be like saying that all buyers are seen as upright and honest and all sellers are looked at with a critcal eye,, anyone who has done much buying on ebay or other venues knows that buyers are not always upright individuals.

My opinion is that equality is best and I would oppose a change in the rules based upon this fact alone at this time ,,

One other point of interest concerning the 50 post regulation on Buyers is that it is also a way of allowing our forum to take advantage of the coins offered forsale, some folks would sign up buy and never contribute to the forum .

Discussion is always welcome when something of this type appears in a thread, and all opinions are welcome.

The forum Admin I'm sure will read and post an opionion also as time allows.

If you like you can pose the question in the suggestion and feedback forum, and allow the discussion to continue in that forum,, while waiting for Mom and Dad to get finished moving .

or if asked by Kerry I will move this thread there and allow discussion to continue on this thread in that forum .

Rick

As stated before, I absolutely understand the reasoning behind the rule and actually don't want it changed for me or anyone else. I haven't approached anyone on this site to buy, sell, or trade anything. I merely want to point out that your rule is FLAWED! It isn't fair to qualify a person quantitatively. A person shouln't be defined by his number of posts, ebay feedback score, or credit rating. Nothing magical happens from post 49 to post 50. Metalman hit the nail on the head admiting that there can be alienation between those that have 50 posts and are considered trustworthy and those that have less than 50 and are untrustworthy. Other than being considered one of the untouchables, I love everything about this site and enjoy reading everone's opinions which are all valid.

Kerry67, if you had focused on posting in your free time since when this was posted, you could have 50 posts also, this rool keeps the forum active and keeps some of the newwer members from being shy. I think its a great rool.
