Oh, sorry Steve, I just don't agree with how some people market German coins from that era. If you throw, Nazi, swastika, Hitler, rare, in the title, you get people to bid crazy money on them. If you don't, well look at the second link I posted, its ridiculous.

Your second link is a coin that is selling for a BUY IT NOW price of $1.09! How will anyone bid CRAZY MONEY on it if it has a BUY IT NOW price of only $1.09? Here's his title: Germany 1941-A 1 Reishspfennig Coin...Very Nice !" The only thing wrong with THAT is that "Reishpfennig" is spelled wrong. I'm still not getting it. I'm still confused.

It's just not a rare coin. The rare coins are the occupation coins with the wreath & swastika removed.

I don't find collecting these coins objectionable (I own one) I also don't really have an issue with someone calling something rare. I agree with an earlier post, it is really uninformed bidders that drive me crazy. Just recently there has been a series of commercials by Dominos pizza. They actually took Papa Johns (I think) to court over their claims about 'the best pizza'. In essence their defense was 'in our opinion, we do have the best'. the same really goes for the sellers on ebay. From the perspective of that era of history, one could argue that Rwanda, Sudan, China and a host of other countries' coins would fall into the same category. |

I agree, there is nothing wrong with the auction. Yes, the Caps and the hype annoys me a bit, but other than that it is only naive collectors bidding that high.

"shameless promotion to make an extra buck" is a big part of capitalism. You see this every day. Do you think "sex sells" is not the same thing? The problem is the bidders, not the seller. It's the buyers that set the market conditions, not the sellers. As far as the Nazi aspect, I own a few Nazi coins. Its part of the past, whether we like it or not. A lot of these coins were brought back by the brave men who fought in that conflict, along with other souvenirs.

I have no qualms about what they are selling. Its how - in this specific instance, the marketing seems a bit unscrupulous.
I'm surprised at how many people are okay with the tactics, especially after seeing countless threads about misrepresented coins. How is this any different?
Once again - I have NO issue with the coin being sold, just how they are represented.

I agree with HO. On the first auction he linked to, here is the title: RARE~NAZI~COIN 1941 A-1 Swastika WW2 SS German Set #2/4A. It's not RARE B. It's not #2/4 of an SS German set Now, the description: WORLD WAR II HITLER'S NAZI GERMANY 1941
RARE MINT MARK OF (A) FROM BERLIN - #2/4
VERY NICE 2nd YEAR (1) REICHSPEFNNIG COINA. The Berlin mint mark is hardly RARE. There were 281 million of this coin minted in Berlin that year. B. Again, where is this #2/4 coming from? C. "VERY NICE" is subjective, but I would not call this coin that. And when used in conjunction with "RARE", It could lead uninformed seller to assume this is about as nice as they come. D. "2nd YEAR" is misleading. It is not the second year of the Third Reich. It is not the second year they produced a 2 Reichspfennig. What it IS, is the second year this coin was produced in zinc. Yes I understand all the arguments about salesmanship, and "bragging-up" your product. But, I think this listing may have crossed the line. Actually, the proof that it crossed the line is in the ridiculous price that was paid for it. Just my two pfennigs worth  Edited by schmidty

Caveat emptor. Let the buyer beware. If someone says that they are rare,it is up to the buyer to do his homework.Toyota is saying that their cars are safe.Maybe, but it's up to the buyer to decide whether to buy that car.

Oh jeez...okay...now I get it. Duh. I thought the two links HO provided were from the SAME seller. I thought he was saying that he objected to the second link as well as the first. I'm going to go lay this brick I call my head on my pillow and go to bed now. Maybe I'll be better in the morning...
