Beautiful solid AU! I wonder if an acetone dip might take care of that spot? I had similar spots on my 1917 slq type coin, and acetone took them right off.

More specificly I would say AU-58. I really don't see much obvious wear except maybe a tad on the knee and foot. It really is a nice coin, too bad about that spot.

Thanks for all the opinions, I have it graded as AU-58, but the minimal wear takes away the FH designation, in my opinion. I wonder what a TPG would say though.... The spot most likely could be removed with a dip in acetone, but I don't want to mess up the toning, which is very attractive in hand.

Acetone shouldn't affect the toning, or the surfaces at all as long as you wash it off.

I agree with johnny, however, *if* the acetone does remove anything from the coin, there may be less (or no) toning at those spots. Pick your poison.

Wheatguy keeps posting SLQs and is making me falter from upgrading some of my existing WQs, WLs and others ... great looking coin and I'm going to start slowly, but actively collecting these ...

Thanks Tcmac, I guarantee you'll like collecting these. I may have to use acetone on this one, but maybe I'll hold back for a while, all the horror stories I've read about acetone are starting to scare me a bit. I finally just learned a very important lesson, thanks to Dave. (Vermontensium.) I finally learned how to spot rub. I knew what it was, I knew it could mean the difference between an AU and MS coin, but now I've officially learned to spot it. Thanks!

Pick your poison. that is true, there may be a white spot in it's place, especially with a large spot. My 7070 type 1 slq had about 4 green spots before an acetone dip, but they weren't large enough to really leave noticable "lack of toning" marks, nor did it affect the luster or toning. Here it is post acetone dip. Maybe I just got lucky.

With what looks to me like wear on the shield at 7:00 and on the breast, I'm going to say AU-55
