Again on the 25cent, NT
Like they say, a black background is best.
You can also use a pedstal,. That way, there are no shadows.

1940 - going out on a limb and saying AT, possibly cleaned and AT. I could buy it on a MS coin, but it looks "wrong" to me on a circulated coin.

pennylover started it and 1cent finished it.

It's been cleaned and retoned. Under 40x magnification it gives up no clues to this at all and even has appropriate circulation marks. The coin was toned using a stratified atmosphere in a closed container with a process I won't divulge for fear I end up encouraging people to do this. In hand the coin looks absolutely natural and under a 10x loupe with a real NT coin right beside it you couldn't legitimately call it.

I am happy to pass this coin around provided it makes it to the next person on the list and then back to me. That way you can see it in hand and understand I'm telling you straight. This coin has been graded three times by three different companies. It's sort of our small groups pride and joy in the sense that we figured it out both physically and chemically. That's what happens when engineers have free time.

Next case...

Black fly season in full bloom!

Surprised that caribou was still enough for the pic.

The 1940 has flat, dull, but white surfaces that made me think "Tarn X". The blue/purple/green hints of color were what led me to believe AT. You just don't usually get those colors once it's been in circulation...you usually need mint luster and the right set of chemical(s) affecting the silver to create them.

1966 - looks like water vapor damage, either from breathing on (or talking while handling) the coin, or a humid environment. Could be AT or NT.

circle by counting machine......Another Test then posted......the human aspect must come into play......I find it comical.....1cent and penny are astute collectors....Ugly, are you using this forum as a testing ground...copper and potato, silver and sulper? Why tho? Too what end? Sorry for asking......

I would have called it meter marks. I guess I don't know what parking cost in 66!
I think 1cent has it right. High humidity. So it really is a case of AT or NT depending
on how you look at it.

And Rusty's joke was great!

Feel free to ask coinsrfun.. my testing was over years ago. So what I show here is in the spirit of sharing and taking a few snaps. We spent a lot of time and money figuring out how these guys were doctoring these duds as a hobby that was all our own. A small group of engineers trying to outdo each other ;)

I'm simply showing some samples and taking it from there as a discussion point. If you feel I have some ulterior motive, you'd be quite wrong. Thought I had best state that bluntly and simply so as not to be mistaken in my meaning.

What I tire of is people who wish to help but make it a test to see if the reader knew........if you know....show.........I did..........just a thought.............toning is an American Issue......except for a few donkeys here (a Canadian forum) who will play because of south of 49envy..................

I don't understand what you are driving at coinsrfun. Speak bluntly. If you don't want to have fun with the pics then don't participate, but stop thread crapping please.

Do not create an issue where none exists. If you wish to "tone" a coin do so.......why publish your RESULTS here with no explanation here? No educational purpose has been shown except your thoughts from a group of people? To ask if AT or NT is silly.........use a potato....call it tomato...and put it in an ICCS holder to help your "GROUP OF FRIENDS" solve an issue....are you running with "Snaz" to see if and or what grade you get? No explaination is solid for numismatics.....IMO

Yes I like tomatoes...

Was that the right answer? Because none of the rest is making sense.

The level of discourse in this forum is deteriorating to the point where we are ready to take action. You have been warned.
