Sounds like a French medal (I don't recognise it as a coin). Try running the inscriptions through the Babel Fish Translator. It's not 100% accurate and is easily confused, but it should give you some idea on the reason for issue of the medal. You do need to include all the accent marks when typing in the French words. My opinion: it seems to have something to do with mining. "Decouverte" is indeed French for "discovery". It looks like some king of mining scene on one side; I assime it's celebrating some kind of precious mineral discovered and dug up since 1717. A silver mine, maybe?
Don't say "infinitely" when you mean "very"; otherwise, you'll have no word left when you want to talk about something really infinite. - C. S. Lewis

There was a Larghe Gold mine in the 1700's discovered in France and many people were sent to work there as order of King Louis iix.

The so called coin or medal strike Many countries do just the opposite so I do not bother to look since I cannot remember which country does what Belgium even has an A and B position for the rim lettering some bringing much more money then the other If it is a coin apart from the sovereign and the kruger it should have a value on it in my limited knowledge

Well if anything coins can spawn history lessons. Pierre TAFFIN inherits title and holdings as "Seigneur of VIEUX-CONDE" His friend Viscount DESANDROUIN owns the castle located at Trieu of FRESNES. Good coal vein discovered in 1717. These two gentlemen formed the ANZIN Company. 1756 there are 1500 miners. 1789 there are 4000 miners. The mines produce til the 1900's.
Thank you All for a place to start searching!!

trcmedic: Coinage history is one of the main reasons that we all collect coins. Yes, this was a good lesson for us. Thanks everyone for your contributions and assistance to trcmedics thread.
As an added note, foreign coins/collectors are referred to a "darksiders" on the CCF. Enjoy!
