Every high resolution photo I try to upload is above 90kb, which is too high for the web site...any suggestions?

crop =) focus on the areas where you think there is wear, and the immediately surrounding area Also - I don't know if it's true of your software, but I can set mine to a pretty high compression (smaller file size) without losing a much detail - especially on darker coins. When I play with my photos in Photoshop, I find I can safe them for web at a quality of sometimes 30 or 40 (whereas I'm accustomed to a minimum of 70, which doesn't work for this forum) without getting too much artifact. JPEG format uses more file size for brighter image portions, so if you crop out the white, you'll save considerably on file size. Crop, but enlarge the important bits. for what it's worth, it looks like a pretty coin to me! Oh - also 3cent - have a look at http://www.pcgs.com/Photograde/#/TwoCent/Grades - you'll see coins of every grade that pretty dark chocolate color. =) These photos may not be detailed enough to help you grade your coin AU vs BU, but I hope it helps. PPS: it looks like even their MS66 example has a rounded ball under "WE", so that's not an issue! w00tz! Edited by delaner

well, the strange thing to me is is that there is no underlying luster. I am going to send this coin to PCGS, so ill let you guys know what grade it comes back as. I'll keep trying to enlarge it, but I'm not very good at figuring these things out. I know how to crop but not compress.....

This is far from my area of collecting, and I wonder, does it show any luster? are comparable pieces show luster at similar grades ?

If there is no apparent luster the chances are that it has been dipped, making it not worthwhile to send to PCGS.

honestly it looks like a really nice au to me. You seem very nervous about the coin, however, and if you feel you've overpaid, better to be safe than sorry? As long as the seller you bought from is fair and offers a return guarantee, you might want to go through with it. Be aware that the expense and difficulty returning sometimes is more than it's worth.
*I'm NO EXPERT*
It looks like the more common large motto variety, so MY GUESS is it's worth somewhere between $50 and $100, depending on how generously it's graded. That's my non-expert guess - I could be very wrong.
Again, to me, it's puuuurty. =)

OH - and the reason they're telling you not to bother with PCGS is not because the coin isn't a solid coin - it's expensive to do so and if it has been dipped, PCGS will send it back ungraded. If you're still interested in getting it graded you might send it to ANACS, who are being a bit more liberal in their grading than PCGS - which as of late is being VERY conservative on the coins it even chooses to grade. =)

My advice would be to not send it in to any TPG. The possible dipping and value makes it not need a TPG. I don't know why everyone here seems to want to send coins into a TPG- They are not always the "magic" answer. And sending a problem coin to PCGS is fine, it will just come back in a Genuine holder. |

I paid $75 dollars for the coin and if it is removed from the holder, then he won't accept a return. I guess it is going back. It's a shame, I was excited about the rotation. From the same guy I also got an unc 3 cent nickel that is struck through on both sides. Anyone interested in seeing it?
