Hey Scooby, I will be off for Alaska in 8 days and last year there still wasn't wireless connections in the bearing sea, LOL. If I do find a wireless connection, I will most definitely pop in and say hi but that might not happen at all. I hate going up for the summer - I have 2 Harley's and love to ride so I only get about 2 months of ridding now. The good part is I can make in 3 months what most make in 12 - money - ride - money - ride? Hopefully I can retire before I can't ride anymore.

The date would be nice to have - and I can see that that would probably be the most collectible. Any chance one of you can get a rough date on the second coin - the FG is closer to the base than modern LMC's and the serif on the bottom of the T in cent is not there - Pre?

Thanks for your input
Brent

Hard to say without seeing it a little closer. Kind of resembles RDV-004. Maybe you can loupe it and compare here:

Thanks for the link - Forgot I had that in my favorites and could have done that myself. Great eyes Scooby, it is the RDV-004 - very obvious compared to the other initals so it is somewere between 74 and 85.

Peace
Brent

Are we going to see you on "Deadliest Catch" ? .....

Will you be aboard the Corneilia Marie or the Time Bandit ? .....

I've been to Alaska.......wish I could live there !......but the older I get, the less of a fan I am of Winters !! We get -25 degrees below zero here in Kansas with the wind chill......I don't think I could take -75 DEGREES !! ...

(RIP Capt. Phil Harris)

As far as the poll question goes.....I like the first one too, but I don't collect "off-centers". (Though I would like to find one or any other kind of error from roll hunting !)

Hi ian, I am the chief engineer on a crab boat. Our boat leases out our crab quota because the owners make about 8% more leasing out the quota than they would sending us out there and paying for the trip. We will be tendering up there for the Sockeye salmon season and hit S.E. Alaska on the way back to Seattle. I might be going to the Gulf of Mexico in the fall if the oil is still a mess down there - $450.00 a day for that job.

Will Trade Salmon For Coins - LOL

Peace
Brent

He was always one of my favorites. I love that show. I hope the Cornelia Marie is on the show next season. I assume Josh would take the reins?

Kudos to all those guys and you Brent. What a gruelling grind - there's no way I could do that.

Me too Scooby.....that was so sad.
But the younger Jake was actually the more experienced one. And he and his brother could NEVER get along....regardless, I don't think one could take orders from the other, since their fathers passing sadly. When Phil was in the hospital the first time, you'll remember that "neither" of his sons took the helm. It was the first mate who did, the two sons were deckhands and/or deckboss. Josh would occasionally relieve his dad in the wheelhouse for a nap during good weather, but that was about it I think.
I have no idea who will helm the Corneilia Marie now....time will tell.....it'll be interesting to see what happens I'm sure. I do hope that one or both of the sons could do it.

Eaglefoot - Our boat - The Deception - doesn't let those guys on board - to let them on we only get an extra $2000 per crew member and they are just in the way to much. - they ask us every year, who knows what the owners will say to them this year. Our boat has been pictured at least 20 times on the deadliest catch - in fact it is featured in a show I think is called, well can't think of the show but I saw it last Sunday - it was a show on the Herring season out of sitka and the Deception is pictured quit a bit. The boat is much like the North Western - 6 feet longer and is black - powered by 2 650 hp diesels. Maybe the owners will send us out crabbing this year - wont know for a while on that.
All those guys or most of them go up and tender the salmon season - (RIP Capt. Phil Harris) - his boys aren't ready to skipper yet - they know there stuff - but if they are going to make it work - they should hire a skipper. IMHO . We are talking about a multi million dollar business that can be all lost in one season. and Yes - Kieth is that much of a JERK - (I would have chosen harsher words but can't afford to get kicked off the site for my last week.) Always trying to back stab you and take your crew. Then set his pots on top of yours and say - sorry I didn't see them - GET SOME GLASSES BUDDY.

Peace
Brent

That's pretty cool Brent ! .....I'll have to look for it !

And I suspected as much with the "film crew guys" for a lot of those boats. I think with the smaller boats, $2,000.00 per man would be a good thing.....the bigger boats maybe not so much ?
And I'm sure that those who own their own boats enjoy the "Celebrity Factor" (ie going on Larry King Live or something)
I know Captin Phil used his celebrity for lots of "side money ventures"......

I'd sure like an opportunity for that kind of money and work in the Gulf of Mexico down south.....but I wouldn't want to risk my life in the Bering Sea for ANY amount of money !
But......alas.....I'm a lifelong Kansan ! ......I've only seen the ocean twice in my life ! I doubt I'd be able to handle rough seas too well ! .....

I do not collect off-center coins, but I can appreciate them, especially how they can actually escape the mint being so "obvious" an error.

Brent, have a safe trip and be careful up there!

I always prefer an OC to have a date but if that is not possible, I would choose the one with the highest degree of OC which would be #2.

Eaglefoot - Don't you get rough sea's there in Kansas in the form of every year? I think I would rather go down with the boat then fly through the air or get impaled by an object. Both must have the pucker factor happening.

If you think about it - there are a lot of politics in the fishing industry - most are Union Workers and won't go out if the price is not good. Others, that I will leave nameless for this post, only care about themselves and will scab. This has not happened in years now so these guys are getting back into the good side of most the fisherman but one of the favorite boats on Deadliest Catch was a scab boat and it took years, and I mean years for the other fisherman to start accepting them as even Humans. It can get very very ugly up there.

Jbuck - I am amazed these get through the mint myself - but I don't mind - I like these odd balls.

biokemist6 - I tend to have the same thoughts as you as far as to the more off center #2 coin. The poll says we are the minority.

Wolf - if the weather ever stops raining up here we might get a chance to ride before I leave. It was nicer here in March than it is now. My sons band is going to put on a going away party for me on Sat night but if it is nice in the morning we may have to meet up at Northwest Harley and maybe head for Mt Rainier or out to the Olympics, my back yard. Ride Free -

Peace

Well, if I had to choose one of the these two (not the "I don't collect off centers" choice that I made), I would agree that the more extreme error is preferred.
