I put mine in 2x2s and place them in a plastic coin sheet. It works great for me and I think it looks great. This works great for me because I'm always looking for upgrades.

My vote is for the 2x2's as well. you can rearrange them, write on them, and the space is unlimited, subject to buying more 2x2's and more sheets!
I'd recommend spending a bit more on the sheets with the metal rings. They last longer as the others will eventually rip out of the binder through normal use

Thanks everyone for the information. My grandson and I have decided on the 2x2's in a plastic sheet because we will be able to write the information we gather on them. Of those who use this method do you recommend the 2x2's with staples or the self adhesive variety? We don't have a coin shop within an hours drive so any reccommedations on an on-line retailer?

I prefer staples. You can take them out easily if you get an upgrade for a particular coin Plus I think a staple is less likely to corrode a coin.

I recommend Colonial Acres to buy the 2x2's: http://www.colonialacres.com/home.shtml

When using 2x2 stapled you might want to flatten the staples out with a pair of pliers to limit scratches on your coins.

Another hint on the staples. Instead of 3 staples on the 3 open sides, use just 2 staples at a 45 degree angle. Makes the 2X2 seem a little cleaner.

I got sick of using pliers to flatten the staples so I bought a stapler that staples properly. It was about $25 though.

I also tried to do the 45 degree two staples but I found the coins moved around. Maybe I'm obsessive compulsive, but I want my coins perfectly straight in the 2x2's :)

I think I'm a little OCD too splatto, I staple each 2 X 2 four times, with the coin perfectly straight.

Since we're on the topic, I've never been a fan of big binders for 2 X 2's, so I ordered one of those 60 pocket coin albums. To me there's just something more enjoyable about flipping through an album than a binder. YMMV, but it could be a tidy way to make sets, and satisfies the completionist part of the OCD collector!

What size 2x2's are preferred for Canadian large pennies? I see they're a little bigger than a quarter but smaller than a loonie. Thanks

You can get exact match sizes for any coins. They make one for loonies/large cents, thats what I use for them and they fit nice.

The reason I only buy 3 different sizes is because I hate having to keep an inventory of 8 sizes of 2x2's for each circulation coin. It's much easier to be on top of

I find for some sizes of 2x2s I have to use a US based site to purchase. Coin supplies stores in Canada I find don't sock 10 cent and loonie sizes. They say use the 1 cent / 2 dollar sizes. I prefer exact sizes so I have 7 or 8 stacks of holders.

As I have put in previous posts. Amost all I collect is Victoria Large Cents and the only mylar holder that fits just right are US for the SBA & Sacagawea dollars. These have a 26 mm opening and the large cents are 25.4 MM, as are the US dollars. Order them from Brooklyn Gallery of Stamps & Coins(website). They also have the 1 1/2 X 1 1/2 mylar holders.

For you who cjoose to use the pocket storafe method, I have a bit of info for you.
Unless you store the notebooks flat, (there are those designed for that use), you will find that the pages will buckle, whether standing up-right, or standing on the open side. the wieght is more than they can stand, and the buckle, will eventually lead to a torn sheet. Foe this reason , I had to remove all of then, and instead use a normal storage box, designed for flips. They hold two or three hundred flips, depending on denomination. I only use the PVC-free fluips. I also have used a home-made box that holds 150-200. So far, no ill effects, (after 5 years storage).

I also vote for the 2x2 method as it allows viewing and writing on both sides if you desire....also if using 2x2 and binders it is best to store laying down
