Don't you think? ANACS gave what everybody thinks as a VF/EF an AU55? Mid 20 Lincolns are a bear to grade because many of their strikes are poor and struck with used dies, so that is why I asked for your input. These are tough! By the way what did you think they would be and how did you choose which coin went where!!! Mike From your last Photo's I thought they were not in the same order as your original photo's. It's hard to tell, and my first response was what I said above, I thought the better of the two was the ANACS and the lower grade one was the ICG!(just the opposite) Go figure!! zakgold Valued Member United States 382 Posts	Posted 04/03/2005 11:56 am I bought the ICG coin raw...hoping it would grade AU58 or better. I liked the luster and red/orange hues still left in the coin. I was a little disappointed when it came back. The ANACS coin I had awhile back and had it for awhile. Since that coin graded at AU55, I was sure that ICG submission would fair at least AU58 based on how ANACS graded the first coin. This is what drives me crazy!! Report this Post to the Staff

I think ANACS was very liberal on the first one,hence your bigger disapointment on the other submission. I think the strike was exceptional for that year. Clearly you can see weakness on the obverse and reverse on the other one that have nothing to do with wear. Even the mint mark was crisp! Try it again, maybe at PCGS. You may be surprised! Even considering the softer strikes on these coins, I still see the first as an EF grade. There is definite wear (rub) on the cheekbone. That does not appear to be just a softer strike to me. I saw the second as a sold AU55. One way or the other, I do not understand (or agree with) the grades as they were assigned (keeping in mind that my opinions are based on images and grading can be done a lot more accurately with the coins in hand). From what I saw, the first coin had definite wear and the second had very minimal rub. Report this Post to the Staff

For the life of me I can't understand how ANACS gave a AU55 for the first coin, while the second looks twice as good with colors and all...but got only an AU50 This is the hardest range for me to grade...AU50 to MS63. AU should still retain a good bit of luster and very light circulation. This coin could be weakly struck, but still shows definate signs of wear. Report this Post to the Staff

I figured he is bound to get them right eventually!Mike Man, ain't that the truth! I sent an NGC-63 to PCGS for a crossover on 25 March, received notification it had arrived Monday 28 March. I submitted it for Express Service - 7 "business" days since I'm on a time crunch. Then I checked into the PCGS submission center and learned Tues - Thurs 29-31 Mar were "blackout" days and don't count. So Monday 4 April will be only the 2nd "business" day. And I'm on pins and needles worried that PCGS will climb onto its Ivory Tower and decide to downgrade to MS-62 just because they can, even though it's a beautiful, gorgeous almost bagmark-free Morgan which could conceivably grade MS-64. So, the earliest I can get it back is 14 April (by my calculations; PCGS's mileage will vary) and I'm sure an ulcer will have erupted by then. Report this Post to the Staff
