Anyone here who collect also coins from Germany?

Sure. :) But I primarily collect coins from this country (Federal Republic of Germany), not so much the earlier stuff. Nice pieces you have though!

Yeah I'm a German Collector too - MOSTLY Third Reich (as its my research area), but also Kaiserreich stuff like you. Alas, very few of my Kaiserreich Silver pieces looks as nice as yours (tho I do have some UNC (and one Proof) Third Reich coins)...

epop: no problem at all; feel free to post more. I actually recently acquired a proof 2003 'restrike' of the 1871 Seiges Thaler; only bought it because it was cheap and Silver (paid a bit over melt value)...

If you're really into German stuff, forget about the Krause... Get your hands on the Jaeger Katalog - Die deutsche Münzen seit 1871 - Kurt Jaeger and Helmet Kahnt; the current edition is the 21st --> http://www.amazon.de/Die-deutschen-...p/3866465211 . If you're specifically interested in Kasierreich then, if I remember correctly (I'm at Uni, so cant glance over my shoulder and see my bookshelf :) there is Das Deutsches Kaiserreichmünzen - Thomas Schantl --> http://www.amazon.de/Das-Deutsche-K...p/3932769341 . And finally, the Volker Weege books are highly recommended; most relevant to you will be Münz Fälschungen 2: Deutsches Kaiserreich --> http://www.amazon.de/M%C3%BCnz-F%C3...p/3950226869 .

And you're only interested in Kaiserreich or do you also collect later stuff? (Weimarer Republik, Drittes Reich, DDR/BRD, EURO)

Thanks for the references on German books I will add one in my collection.
I appreciate if you can provide any information in English written German coin book.
I am interested in German coins before 1918, that's my focus. But of course I have the Hindenburg 2 and 5 mark and the Potsdam church issues.

They are some fantastic coins you've got. The only type of coins I allow myself to collect other than just deal in are German coins - especially Kaiserreich and Weimar periods. The variety of designs is unrivalled by any other European country, and historically are often very interesting. Unfortunately the Weimar period peices tend to be comparitively expensive

English references are VERY hard to find, but honestly you don't really need to read German to get a LOT out of the Jaeger Katalog (you just need to know a handful of words and abbreviations); as for the Weege, its the BEST book there is for Kaiserreich Counterfeits; while a little German would help with this book, there isn't anything in there that you cant figure out by using Google Translate.

If you're worried about the Cost, it should be pretty easy to find yourself a used copy of Jaeger for very little... Then you can have a look, see if it works for you.

For CURRENT Katalog Values, there is also the Beutler site (and earlier Beutler Katalog's); The Beutler site is organised VERY much like the Jaeger Katalog (the Jaeger is THE STANDARD when it comes to German Coins), so again, its a pretty good place to start and my first stop these days when I need accurate, upto date 'trade' values... This link will take you straight to the Kaiserreich Section --> http://www.beutler-muenzen.de/rubrik139.htm

If you need more info, shoot me a PM or an Email or something :)

Jeff, you're quite right about the relative rariety of Kaiserreich silver; I'll start from the top though.

The existance of decent quantity of Kaiserreich silver can be explained by one event, WW1. The German people recognised the 'Physical' value of Silver and began to hoarde these coins. They the time they were demonetised after thje war, their metal value far outweighed their monetary value; thus people held onto them.

Kaiserreich coins are different. Most of these coins were demonetised in early-mid 1930's (1933/4), with the 1933 Monetary Reform (essentially, reducing the size of the coins (although keeping the precious metal content of the 2RM and 5RM) because lets face it, the KR (Kaiserreich) 5M and WR (Weimarer Republik) 5RM are BIG coins AND withdrawing the silver 1RM and 3RM (to be replaced by a Nickel 1RM).

This was a period of relative financial stability and growth with the reforms that the NSDAP Government introduced which continued Germany's impressive emergence from the Depression.

THUS, people were not at all bothered about exchanging their old Silver Coins for New Silver Coins (which in the case of the DR (Drittes Reich) 2RM and 5RM, had the same Silver content anyway) - so unfortunately, we have a lower surviving rate of WR (Weimarer Republik) types!

The same pattern happened in WW2; the German People wise to the effect of war, begin and continued to hoarde the silver coins (despite attempts by the Government of the time to recall them for trade purposes, the Allies attempting to recover them after the war through legislation and later the Bundesrepublik attempting to recover them); thus, we also have a glut of DR silver - most of the DR Silver Types are pretty easy to find and not XXXRARE as so many people try to tell you...
