Welcome to CCF.
Your note is straddling "moderate" to "Major misaligned Overprint". The condition of your note is excellent "well centered", great embossing and you cannot ask for more. That alone is going to carry the price on this error note. Do not in anyway try to do any enhancements (ironing etc), touch it and make sure your protective sleeve is of high quality.
I agree with John, although prices have come down you should definitely get this graded and hopefully yours is CHCU (This depends on how you came about this note).
Peace

John, I checked lew's note. The diff is that one has the frb district numbers from an another note making it "major". But this one by nomadron is in excellent condition and is going to carry this note.

I know it is different but it was the closest I could find to OP. May not be worth $600 but is worth getting it pro graded. IMHO, John1

Thank you for the replies. This may be a stupid question. But how or where do you get it "graded"? I put it in an inexpensive 50 cent sleeve I bought at a collector store. Should I get another kind?

Any sleeve is better than none. You can go to one of the grading companies web site (PMG or PCGS are the more common favorites) and they have a list of places you can take the note to. They will help you with the paperwork and ship it to the grading company.

Hello to all and thanks for the information and leads. I checked the PMG and PCGS sites as recommended. I am not ready to spend the money necessary on those sites to have a dollar bill graded. As I said I'm not a collector. I guess I'll put this one away until I hit the lottery. Thanks again folks! I do appreciate the help.

Oh, and one more thing. Resist the urge to take the note out of the sleeve and show it off, examine it, or whatever. Any handling will wear it slowly but surely. Just admire it through the plastic.

Hello again to all!
I wanted to post some follow up information about my dollar note.
I had it graded by PMG. It was graded "55 AU EPQ, Third Print Misaligned."
So does this information enable anyone to hazard a guess on value?

This info is coming from a error book that I have. It list your note as a moderate misaligned overprint. Value ranges anywhere from 50.00 in fine condition and up to 250.00 in cu condition.

I am surprised at the grade based on your original pic. Where is the FOLD? Any who, below is link to a note similar to yours on ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/1-1969-B-MAJOR-...em19c6a02949IF your note was in my possession I would not take anything less than $250. Spring, don't get wrong.... books are a good guide. I have seen prices go higher and lower than given ranges. IF you can get note like the OP's graded for a $100 go for it OR let me know and I will give you a finder's fee.

Thank you all for your responses. Ceylon62 I did not then, nor do I now see a fold. But I am a complete novice at currency evaluation. I have to defer to the experts at PMG. I do know it has been stored flat ever since I acquired it. Thanks for the link to the ebay error note. It makes me smile when I remember when I took it to a "coin & gold" shop before I sent it to PMG and the gentleman there told me it was worth about $10 (ten dollars).

Ceylon In my statement please show where I said I could get it for 100.00. I said the book value list it in that price range. People can ask what ever they want for a note if they get it great for them. Me personally I try to stay within the price range quoted in books and have had no problems obtaining most notes (not all) that I have been interested in.

Spring, My points being The OP is new to the forum. The error in it self is a rather neat / bordering on a major shift. How often have you seen a graded note like the OP's go for $50? So why quote a starting price of 50 based on the pic and grade? My 2 cents - It's best / and in someway a fiduciary duty of forum members who have been around a while to give an idea of what the TRUE worth of such a note is based on yours OR my experiences in the real world rather than quoting wide price ranges from books. As one dealer told another dealer on another forum "you live by the sheet you die by the sheet". To circle back to your question - I took this comment below and averaged it out for 150. Ergo, $100 for the note plus finders fee. Quote: Value ranges anywhere from 50.00 in fine condition and up to 250.00 in cu condition. My apologies IF I offended you in anyway.

Ceylon62 I'm not offended. All I did was use a book that was recommended by several people on this site to use as a value guide as I was at one time interested in error notes as I have several myself. All I did was quote what the low end price was and what the high end price was. I did not tell the op this note was worth such and such amount. If you or anyone else feel the op can get more then what I quoted from the book I used great, I am also aware that someone who wants the note bad enough will pay what ever to obtain the note. We all look at things differently some see big $ and others don't. No harm no foul in giving one's opinion. Me personally the error notes I have I don't see big $ just something that is unique.
