My first step would be to split the coins into denomination groups ( 1,5,10,25 cents).I would then make a list for each group starting with the oldest date and try to give each coin a grade. It would make it easy to establish a fair value of what you have.
Common average circulated coins will not bring big money.Check to see if you have some varieties or more rare ones.I would send the more valuable to a Canadian TPG before placing them on ebay.
I haven't seen any really rare stuff in here but did not checked too much. The cased nickel dollars are not expensive.Your bank token depending on the grade should sell well.

The 1857 token is fairly common, you can see thaem regularly on ebay for around $10 depending on condition. The 1881, 88, and 59 are all fairly collectable, I personally have about two dozen of just those dates. Depends on variety and condition. So at least those 4 are of some value. enjoy!

I agree with rodime, I have dealt with Colonial Acres for several years and they seem very fair. I will look up prices of coins and compare their list with the coins I have, and that gives me a better idea.

Thank you all for your input.

COA = Cert. of Authenticity - Makes sense. Thanks kyrio.

I can see now what I really want/need is to get a scanner so I can post some better quality close-ups of the coins. Especially the older/rarer ones. Since I'm not under any time constraints to get them sold, it would be nice to learn as much as I can about Canadian coinage in the process. I greatly appreciate being able to draw on the vast knowledge base found collectively from the members here on this forum.

May look at my library for a Charltons as well.

It doesn't stop with Canadian coins either. Ther looks to be some pretty old British, Mexican, & French coins. Just to name a few. There's just a couple of ancient coins too.

So please give me a few days. Hopefully I will then be back with some satisfactory scanned images . Stay tuned while I see what I can come up with.

Anyone have a good used scanner for sale?

I'd be interested in the french coins, once you decide to sell! As for a scanner, try your local value village / salvation army / thrift shop. Most of the time, people throw out scanners when they reformat a computer, and have lost the driver disk.

Yes, those thrift stores & similar have been on my mind. We have several in this small town I live in. I may even find the time to check out a couple of those this weekend. Yard sales are big this time of year too. Just may scan some of them while I'm out and about as well.

A workmate of mine found a working scanner at one of those thrift places about a year ago. I think he said he gave less than $2 for it!

If all else fails, I may have to give in and go to 'Wally World' or Office Depot. I think I've got the wife convinced that it's a "must have" item. So that's half the battle !

Finally got myself a scanner. Woo Hoo! I am going to love this thing. Much better images & resolution than my old cammera!

So here are a few images as promised. I figure I will start with the large cents and then move on up through time and denominations.

I hope you enjoy them. After all this may be the most fun/interesting part of this forum - the sharing of images of the coins we have .

I'm out of time right now so I'll get back on here later to share some more pics.

Any input on any of the coins I'm posting is greatly appreciated.

Here's a couple images of the 1857 Token that nybird commented on previously:

nybird, you had asked before for a better pic of the 1881 large cent. If you can't tell from the image, that one's bent a little, in additon to the obvious wear. What do you think about it & the others?

rodime, I will be postig some pics of the french coins soon but in the appropriate thread. I would realy like some input on the composition of those. Most seem to be aluminum while some might be bronze (brassy colored), while still others may have some silver content. I'm thinking primarily about the 10 centimes with the hole in them (?) as far silver content goes.

Here are a few more large cents. Just a bit newer than the previous ones. Three with Georgivus & one 1904 with that Edward dude on it ;-):

Sorry for the delay last few weeks have been super busy. The 1881, 88, 59 and 00 and 01 all look a little rough in your photos. I wouldn't think they would be worth much in that condition unless there is something rare that is not obvious in the photos. If I saw the 1881 on ebay with a "make an offer" I would offer $1 or so. The other 4 less. Sorry for that news, just my opinion though.

I really like the tokens and see them sell on ebay for $5-10 and up depending on slight variations. I have a few but just for fun, you may want to try the tokens section for opinions on variety, there are some very sharp folks over there. Thanks for the photos.

Thanks nybird. Yes the 59, 81, & 88 are in pretty rough condition. In addtion to being generally rough and damaged, the '59 looks like it's been cleaned to boot. The 88 (looks like a 38 -?) is pretty badly pitted and green. The 81 is bent up a bit. So out of that bunch the 00 & 01 are the best looking. Those two have no damage and the least wear.

So what I will likely do is offer them on ebay as a group (as seen in the pics shown here). Maybe they will make some viable "whole fillers" for someone's collection.

I think I will take your advice and share the half-penny token over in the token section.

I appreciate the input.

I have a couple of mint sets just like this one (one of them is a '61). Anyone have a guess on current value of sets like this?

Silver composition on the dollar, half, quarter, & dime is 80% correct?

Thanks.
