scoutjim99, please point me in the direction of learning what are the 18 different varieties of the 2006-d penny...perhaps your referring to the 2006-p DDO's which i'am aware of 14 ...if not I've not done something right(as far as learning something new every day,for ..some time)... not to unusual for me

I was just talking about 18 variants for a type set not 2006d I have no Idea on that one sorry. But I guess I know that their are 14 Varietties now..
Oh man let me see, somewhere I have a list of them that I compiled some time ago. I will try to give you some off the top of my head. (some of the variants are real small)but they are different.
1909Vdb,(1910-1917)1918-1942,1943 Steel,1944-1946 Shell casing ,1947-1958,slightly different design, do not remember why of hand. 1959 Memorial cent, I also through In a (Philly proof and a San Fran Proof), A Denver,a San Fransisco mint state coins. also In 1969 the dies were changed again so add that one I also have added the 7 varieties of 1982. I through in a Modern piece since the dies are different and I guess you could get even Pickier and Throw in a Wide AM- from 1998 to 2000 and I think I have a small date large date of one of the dates in there and I have a Clear and filled S variety 1979 or 1981 proof in there. I know that is picky put just something I am trying to do my self. on all the coins In My type set that I can . Obviously I won't be able to do that with some of them cant afford it.

Charles Barber didn't like the fact that Brenner had his initials so prominently placed on a coin so Barber had the intials removed completely. Coincidentally, the initials returned to the bottom of the bust the year after Barber died

So dj...where was the VDB originally located on the penny and what does VDB stand for? Just a question to see how much more you learned just for fun.

It stands for Victor David Brenner, It was the designer of the coin, It was origanal located on the back of the coin at the bottom. I knew that much I just though that the 1909 was the only one with it.Also Brenner died in 1924 and is buried at Mount Judah Cemetery just add a little more. Also I have only been collecting coins seriously for just over one year and I have learned so much in one year. I never knew how many different types of coins the US minted. So yes I am alway reading and learning.
Also here is a picture of the one I have in my type set.

dj: That was still great info even if you had to look it up to be sure! There are some folks on our family that have photographic memories - I just don't happen to be one of them! I think a lot of us just use our reference guides and so forth but, some of us just "punt" once in a while to see if we really can remember things. Thanks again dj! Great job my friend!

Memory is a funny thing.

I was talking to a good friend today, and I told him, pretty much word for word, a conversation we had back about 1956! However, I picked him up fopr lunch at the wrong time. Why? Because I forgot the correct time -- a fact I learned this morning!
