Grading Companies Which Sell Their Own Slabs

MC, according to Susan at the ANA, if they use the ANA logo, they are also supposed to include their member number and full name. I suspect this is more stringently enforced by those using the logo on a commercial site.

Susan also advised me she was again contacting Charlie about the violation. No word since then.

I've been very busy for the past week, so haven't been able to follow up like I normally would. I'm our RV park's water system operator, we had freeze breaks in our distribution line which caused a failed water test (coliform contamination), the park manager (who is not my boss) thinks this in no reason to alert the residents, so I be busy, busy, busy...

Apparently ebay's ron3873 'got the word' from somewhere as one tier of 'SPONSORED AUCTIONS' were removed. Another group returned along with two auctions for NGC graded coins SPONSORED BY NGC, of course.

Within a day or so, all SPONSORED AUCTIONS went bye-bye. The same fate for all other ron3873 auctions as he became a past ebay member. (NARU)

Hi Bruce and welcome to the forum! The folks here are very friendly as I'm sure you've discovered and the collective knowledge is unbelievable.

I am not certain to what degree professional organizations can be or are now governed by regulations. I know that certain professions such as doctors (and most medical fields), lawyers, and teachers must follow specific government (state and/or Federal) rules, regulations, and guidelines and such persons must be certified or licensed. However, many (most?) other professions are self-regulated with parent society or association certification, e.g., engineers (some states require licensing), many scientific fields, auto mechanics, carpet cleaners, bookkeepers and accountants, etc. In my own field of Wildlife Biology, I received my Certification from The Wildlife Society which is my "license" to practice.

I am not certain the government (state or Federal) would want to become involved in a non-critical (e.g., non-medical, non-defense) profession such as coin grading and slabbing in which the interests of only a relative few would be protected. As importantly, if a bill were introduced into the US House and Senate to regulate TPGs, I suspect one of the arguments against it would be that every other special service industry would fear that it also might become too highly regulated with too much paperwork (read: bureaucracy), e.g., auto mechanics, radio and electronics repair technicians, housing construction (building code inspections notwithstanding), timber and lumber industry, and agriculture (farming). (N.B., in no small sense, these are already regulated through a wide variety of laws such as OSHA, aforementioned codes, CFRs, and overall state regulations on many industries.)

A workaround might be to include TPGs into the existing list of professions requiring licensing under existing regulations, but I know very little about this and, again, the argument by special interests might prevail that such inclusion could be interpreted as arbitrary.

I think the notion of regulating and licensing TPGs is a good one, but one whose time has not yet come.

Gotta think on this some more.

I have been unable to obtain information about the INB slabbing entity. In my opinion, the similarities of names INB and numismaticbureau does raise an independence issue!!
